Course Description:
This course examines the legal environment in which business operates, and develops an understanding of the legal consequences attached to business decision making. The course will introduce students to various legal subjects including property law, contract law, intellectual property law, criminal law, and employment law, among others.

Course Goals and Objectives:

The course is designed to:
1. Familiarize with legal language & concepts as they relate to business
2. Demonstrate an understanding of ethical behavior and social responsibility in the global environment in which business operates
3. General understanding of the legal system in the United States as it relates to business
4. Understanding of the basic law of contracts, torts and property as it relates to business
5. Understanding of the regulatory environment in which businesses operate
6. Ability to apply regulatory provisions to business situations
7. Ability to comprehend basic legal reasoning
8. Awareness of basic strategies for avoiding & addressing legal problems in business
9. Apply critical thinking to the legal implications present in business activities"

Class Attendance: I will expect that you have read the assigned material prior to class. Students will be randomly selected to discuss the reading. For this reason, it is best to be prepared for every class period by thoroughly studying the material in advance.

Blackboard: This class will use the Blackboard course management system. You must establish a user account for Blackboard immediately. You will need to have Internet access for this course. You should be prepared to visit the class web site for this course on a regular basis. Each student in this course must have, and must check regularly, her or his own email account. When you enroll on the Blackboard site, please provide your correct e-mail address.

Project: The project will be posted on Blackboard and must also be submitted for grading on Blackboard. Most importantly, the project must be submitted on time.

Exams: Mixed format questions will appear on the examinations. There will be true/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank and short answer questions. Make-up examinations are generally discouraged but will be considered upon written request for “good cause” such as illness, family or medical emergency. If you are ill, you should contact me BEFORE the test to be considered for a make-up examination and have appropriate documentation regarding your projected absence.

Withdrawals: Last day to drop (no entry to academic record) and the last day to submit Grade Replacement Forms is _________, 2015. Last day to withdraw from classes is _________, 2015.

Academic Integrity Policy: The University Rules, including the Student Code of Conduct will be enforced. Any violation of these regulations, including acts of plagiarism or cheating, will be dealt with on an individual basis according to the severity of the misconduct.
