OUTCOME 1, UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSITY, EQUALITY AND INCLUSION
The learner can:
Define what is meant by:
DIVERSITY - Diversity is essentially another word for different, it recognizes that people are different and unique in many ways such as, personal characteristics, background, culture, personality, race, disability, gender, religion, belief, sexual orientation and age. It means recognizing and understanding individual’s differences and embracing them, to allow people to feel more valued.

EQUALITY - Equality defined basically means equal rights for people regardless of what factors they might have that are different. Equality states that because they are human they must be equal. Example: everyone is treated the same way.
INCLUSION - Is to embrace all people regardless of race, gender, age, ability etc. It’s about recognising we are one although we not the same and to have a sense of belonging.

Describe how direct or indirect discrimination may occur in the work setting.
Direct Discrimination may occur if an employee is not considered for a promotion because of age or a job is refused to a person because of their disability.
Indirect Discrimination may occur when employees are insisted to do night shifts as this could exclude those who have children to care for or by not making reasonable adjustments at work could exclude those employees with a disability.

1.3 Explain how practices that support diversity, equality and inclusion reduce the likelihood of discrimination.

Practices that support diversity, quality and inclusion to reduce the likelihood of discrimination may include encouraging everyone to express their views and have them listened to which in turn helps us to respect and celebrate peoples differences, promoting good practice valuing their individuality enabling them to be fully involved not only in their own lives but in those people around
