3 Three Things I Believe
"Man is what he believes." is one rule we should all live by, Anton Chekhov, a short story author lived by this and preached it to everyone he met. Each person in this world believes in something or someone, for every high school student, there is a younger middle or elementary school student, who looks up to and believes in that high school student. They will model their life after the high school students ', trying as hard as they can to be what they believe. I too model my life on three basic things that I believe; God helps us every day, we can do anything and the power of technology.

The first thing I believe helps all of us in our everyday lives is God and the power of prayer. I strongly believe that God works in each and every one of us and in all different kinds of different ways. A few weeks ago, before our first football game the whole football team got together and met at the 50 yard line of the football field right after the sun had gone down. Most of the underclassmen weren 't sure what to expect or what we were going to do here but, as soon as team captain Trevor Cling explained that "this year every Thursday night we were going to meet at the field to have a prayer before the game on Friday" everyone seemed calm. In the following minutes, each teammate held hands with one another and added their addition to the prayer; by the end of the prayer everyone seemed a little different because they had just poured out their feelings and expectations of the game to everyone including God. Furthermore I remember feeling God telling me what to say and the next thing I knew we had won our first game, which no one picked us to win. We did the same thing the following week and won our second game in a row! I know God was at both of those games; I also know he expects us to never give up and relayed a message to each member of our team, making sure they knew if they did their part, God would pick up the rest! I strongly believe God wants us to always work

Sometimes we think that our plans must lead down a better road, or that God must not love us enough to protect us from this pain we feel, but God actually uses the painful experiences to further develop our character. Vivian Thomas could have given up when it became too discouraging, but instead he persevered and became an inspiration to many people. During times that are hard, God teaches us more about life, ourselves, and most importantly, about Him. Sometimes it is even necessary to go through a difficult time before we are able to realize the ways in which we need to grow and…

To me, God has always helped in life through problems that I have faced. However, soldiers that are fighting for our country have kept God close to their fearless hearts. As General George Marshall said “Military power wins battles, but spiritual power wins wars.” I know in my heart that everyday and night God looks down from the heavens and blesses our soldiers who fight with courage. While freedom surges through their hearts. God has given service men and women as well as citizens, the strength to never lose sight of our ever beloved country and to keep fighting each day.…

McMinn (1996) allows us to see that we need a healthy sense of self in order to overcome our obstacles (p. 47). One way we develop a healthy sense of self is to pray. Praying allows us to be in touch with God. McMinn (1996) states that “those who pray often tend to experience more purpose in life, greater marital satisfaction, religious satisfaction, and a general sense of well-being” (p. 66). However, the counselor must first establish a trusting relationship with the client before they can effectively use prayer within the counseling sessions. If a trusting relationship is not established, the counselor runs the…

In (John 3:16) “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that we could have everlasting life.” This gave me the understanding, that no matter what I am going through in life and all the things that I may have to give up for someone else is for a good cause. Having this faith in my heart makes me feel very spiritual. I have never had any doubt the Lord existing in this world. When I am lonely, depress, or stressing about things I have no control over, I know I can call on the Lord to get me through these emotions that I am experiencing.…

Mrs. Bea was always there when I was confused about what God wanted me to do. She would always tell me to pray and listen. Looking back on that time in my life, I can now see where I never actually done what she told me. Yes, I prayed, but I never actually listened and because of that I can see where I missed great opportunities to share my faith with others. After she left, I relied heavily on Mrs. Knight to help. This past year I found out that I will not be able play softball my senior year of high school. This will be my first year since I started playing at the age of 5, that I will not be able to play the sport I love. In fact, I will be having surgery on my shoulder on my shoulder in two weeks. This has been a real difficult time for me because I have felt as if God has left me, but Mrs. Knight continues to remind me that God’s plan is bigger than anyone can ever imagine. She has also told me that God gives us these storms so that we will be able to help someone else that might be going through something similar. In fact, Mrs. Knight is helping me gather my testimony so that I can tell it to the FCS members. It is still hard for me, as the softball season gets closer, that I won’t be able to play. Mrs. Knight has really helped me and been there for me in this difficult time. She has constantly been praying for and with me. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her continuous help and support. Both of these women have played a major role helping me with my walk with…

As mortal human beings, we all have personal ideologies that drive us to be the person we wish to be and to believe in the things of which we find to be true. A personal ideology is described as, “one’s philosophy of how life should be lived and what forces impact human living.” Oftentimes, people will turn to religion to provide their lives with hope and meaning towards morals and what happens after death. Personal ideologies such as religion have a major effect on modern day society because religion is something that effects everyone differently, and this can either bring people closer together or drive them apart.…

“He does not believe, that does not live according to his belief,” a quote from famous author Thomas Fuller which emphasizes the importance of belief in the life of every human being. Every person in the earth lives on some beliefs and principles. People have their unique ideas, beliefs and principles which they try to follow in their daily life. In less than twenty-four hours my aunt passed away, followed by a dear friend. More recently, my great uncle died. He was like a father to many of us who, at one time in our lives, were fatherless. I have attended more funeral this year than any one person should have to. Each and every day someone wakes up to an empty spot on the bed beside them, or an empty house, or even without a parent or role model. My family has had to show great bravery in basically a long string of what seems like bad luck. Some of the deaths were from old age, some were from illness, and one was done intentionally before his time should have been up. I believe that if he had someone to teach him about God's love and how when everything seems to be going wrong one can turn to him, that I would still have an eighteen year old cousin, who loved life and what it has to offer. If he had shown true bravery he would still be here today. He showed fear by taking his own life and not trusting God to make a way. It would have helped if he hadn't been raised in a home where there was no God. His mother doesn't believe in Him. Even still, I believe that showing bravery by continuing with life and its hardships takes work. Adversity and bad luck seem to follow some around like a rain cloud. But with God's love and power, He can grant us an understanding to deal with the things that seem like too much to…

    Harlem Reflection

One specific insight that contributed to my prayer for the world was a comment in a TED talk that we watched about cultural appropriation. A student described the unique sights, sounds, and smells of Harlem. This student’s perspective was contradictory to another’s, who only knew of the neighborhood what he heard by word of mouth. This flawed view consisted of solely danger and poverty. When the student with the flawed view heard a real description of Harlem, he was awed into remarking, “Show me THAT Harlem”. This remark partly encapsulates how I’ve prayed for the world. One of the biggest battles we can fight mentally is combating ignorance. I learned to see the good in any environment, as well as recognize present harmony, as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures page 470, “…Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony”. Through reading and reflecting on the Christian Science Monitor, I grasped a deeper meaning of harmony and the way it’s expressed in our ever-changing…

    My Personal Faith

My faith has enabled me to handle life challenges from my past and present. Some of these challenges have been series of events that I could hardly believe were happening, while others came with great joy. At five years old, my younger brother, Chandler, died unexpectedly. This was a tough challenge for my whole family to face. This challenge could have easily torn my family apart but together, as a team with God, we worked hard at picking up the pieces and moving forward even when there were days that seemed to be impossible. In the fifth grade, I was diagnosed with a common learning disability known as Attention Deficit Disorder. I am faced with this challenge on a daily basis. I have learned to cope with this disorder over the years by making prayer and patience priorities in helping me conquer this challenge. This challenge was especially difficult during my SAT and ACT tests. Certain scores on these tests were required to get into college and play NCAA football. The stress and pressure of taking these tests felt unbearable at times. While studying and before and during each test, I would remind myself that, through God, all things are possible. With God by my side, I was able to achieve the scores needed to reach my college and athletic goals.…
