4th edition comparison
Please read the following 2 pages carefully if you are intending to buy a used copy of the 3rd edition of The Future of Business by N. Althouse, S. Rose, L. Allan, L. J. Gitman, & C. McDaniel. Published by Thomson Nelson.

The assigned text is the 4th edition of the book, which is available for purchase new from the University of Saskatchewan bookstore. However there are used copies of the 3rd edition of the book on sale around campus.

Given that much of text in the two books is the same, it should be possible to use the 3rd edition instead of the 4th edition. If you do buy the 3rd edition then you must understand the following risks:

The 4th edition contains more up-to-date examples to illustrate the text. It has more discussion of sustainability and entrepreneurship.

The ordering of the chapters in the two editions has changed somewhat. To see how the sequence of chapters in the 4th edition compares to the sequence of chapters in the 3rd edition please read the next page to compare the contents of the two editions. There are some differences. Read the comparison sheet carefully.

In the 4th edition, a NEW chapter (Chapter 7) is added that offers advice on “Analyzing the Business”.

Some exam questions may come from text material that is in the 4th edition and not in the 3rd edition. You may be able to partially correct this problem by attending more classes than you otherwise intended to.

While the 3rd edition is cheaper to buy because there are second-hand copies around, you may not be able to resell that edition after the class has finished. The University Bookstore will not buy back used copies of the 3rd edition at the end of term. Those who buy the new 4th edition will be able to sell their copies after the class has finished.

The student resource web site for the 3rd edition is still available on the Internet but may disappear soon. See http://www.futureofbusiness3e.nelson.com/student/

There are many differences and summaries between the book and the movie the coronals of Narnia the lion, witch and wardrobe. For example; “In the movie, they crossed that river (jumping over ice bergs, Megrim confronting them on the river, etc), while I'm pretty sure that in the book they didn't cross it, but walked along it or something... can't fully recall. Also, I'm pretty sure in the book they were only confronted by Megrims once after Edmund betrayed them (when Peter fought him), but in the movie there was also the aforementioned confrontation on the river.…

It is a much more useful and well-balanced review, combining a brief overview of the book’s content with comments concerning the book’s organizational structure, chapter design, relevance for today’s readers, production values, and other features of the book. Gall’s review provides exactly the kind of information I would be looking for when it comes to purchasing a product. Another nice feature of Gall’s review is a parenthetical reference to other titles by the author reviewed in Horn Book Magazine that may be useful when deciding to order multiple titles from the same author. Interestingly, Gall never explicitly recommends the book for purchase in the text of his review, though his approval of the title is strongly implied and reinforced by the presence of a star in front of the title at the top of the review. As a would-be purchaser of a book, I appreciate when a reviewer helps me learn exactly what to expect from a product when I order it, and Gall’s vivid attention to detail concerning the physical and textual characteristics of the book definitely fill the void lacking in Sumser’s…

The first contained Elie describing the people who were in his childhood and laying the foundation of Elie and who he was. I thought that the author, the main character in the book accurately and told of his childhood. His skill of slowly guiding us from Moshe the Beadle, his faith, and his family to only the beginning of the Holocaust when the Germans moved into his town was outputted well onto the page. Also, the book revealed to me that German officers not only moved into their towns, but were kind to each and every person in the town, including the Jews. Astounding how they were so kind but only a few months later they were trying to exterminate…
