Some of us are excited, others sad, and some scared. Maybe not at this moment, but at some point we have all thought about the time we have spent at BFCCPS and how our years at this unique school have changed us. Whether you arrived as a nervous kindergartener or a confident middle schooler, the opportunities we have been given, and the lessons we have learned have shaped each and every one of us into the people we are today, and more importantly, the people we will become in our futures.…

In 5th grade I never wanted to leave Wolcott. I thought middle school was just filled with mean teachers, more work, and mean kids. I guess I was just stereotyping because that’s not at all what it had turned out to be. When I first walked through those doors to Sedgwick I was feeling a whole mix of emotions like happy, scared and excited.…

Imagine… you are getting all dressed up for that big day. You get anxious and scared because it’s the graduation for eighth grade. You get all dressed up and put on your gown and cap. Then you arrive at the school. You sit in the assigned seat and watch the children before you get up and shake hands. You feel your hands get clammy as you wait. You wait till you hear your name and realize that it’s your time to shine. You stand up and hear the creaking of the harwood on your shoes. Then you feel your hands and wipe them down, but when you get up there you shine like a supernova. Everyone's eyes are on you. You realize that it’s your time to show who you are and time to reflect on your legacy here. A legacy is what you leave behind for people…

This graduation has already shown us how capable we all are of accomplishing our goals when we really want it. I hope all of us here today can take this personal accomplishment as an example of how anything is truly possible when we put our minds to it. As we all continue on in our lives, let us take each new problem on with confidence, knowing that we have achieved great heights and are equipped with the necessary tools to tackle our futures. The road that lies ahead will not be easy. There will be obstacles and missed opportunities. There will be times when each of us will feel like we cannot possibly go on or when we feel like we are alone. But you can go on and you are not alone, we are all in this journey together. We have made it this far, why should we back out now? As my mother has told me “nothing worthwhile is ever easy”, and that includes making the most of our futures. From this day forward, let us make each decision with our best interests in mind. Let us believe in ourselves so that we may reach our goals and fulfill our dreams. Let us be the best we can be so that we may fill our lives with happiness and pride. We have already taken the first step by making it to this ceremony today, now, it is time to take the next steps in the journey that is our lives and begin to build our futures. Do you know what an eagle does when a storm is coming? The eagle will fly to high spot, and wait for the winds to arrive. When the…

I thought these four years would take forever but come to find out they were right. It feels like just yesterday I walked through Switzerland County High School’s doors wondering how in the world I would make it to every class within the four minute passing periods, and now I am usually one of the first students to make it to their classroom. High school is full of several lessons that we are meant to learn on our own and I am blessed to say I have. I think one of the most memorable moments of senior year is when all the seniors sit down and you hear about everybody’s plans after you high school. In that moment you realize that you finally made it, you and your peers are finally about to face the “real world.” I know the class of 2016 will do extrodanory things outside of this school building and I cannot wait to hear about them. I will be the first to admit, I am terrifed of what the “real world” has to offer me but I am more than excited to find out as well. I do not think I am fully prepared, but I cannot wait to see what this world has to offer…

Body: From Kindergarten to our senior year, we have been trapped in a building of mixed corridors and connected rooms. Exhausted and exasperated, we’ve woken to the early hours of the morning and taken ourselves to one of these three schools, whether we wanted to or not. Those elementary years where we joined the band and chorus because “it was cool” or “because our friends did it.” The middle school years where we faced the drama of school groups and the grueling process of growing up. And, to the now, where we brace for the rest of our lives and prepare for the future to come. The information we have attained, or lack thereof, can only be used to better ourselves and it is our responsibility to capitalize upon opportunities that arise from this valuable information. Now, as we progress into the real world, whether it be the job workforce, military, or college, we embrace the difficult transition from our day-after-day routine of high school to a more adjustable and sustainable forthcoming.…
