Students who get help with job placement have really great opportunities, as they have already been on their own for a couple of years and start to make good money right away. Going to college the following fall semester after high school and bettering your education quicker is a really great choice for students, especially if they take the time to go full time. The sooner someone gets an education, the sooner they are more independent and are able to make more…
Some of the research articles we found included people from both sides. The first article included places like McDonalds where you start out at the bottom and work your way up the food chain. Although, this happening is rare, you learn valuable skills like, time management, being honest and being dependable. The second article we read opposed the idea of high school students working. This author argued that high school students can only get jobs that do not require any skills or creativity and you should spend your time focusing on the important thing, school.…
I like to think that after high school you can just go and be free from school for a while. When you’re finished with high school sometimes it can be overwhelming to think of going back to school again. When some students finish high school some are not ready to leave home, some want an income before acquiring debt, and some would like a job that is a trade that requires no college.…
Some students leave school only to have to go to a job for so many hours. Whether they have to do this to help support their family or its by their own choice, they won't have time for that and an after school activity. Nobody would be able to hold a job and be forced to do more for their school than they already have to. They might even try to do both at the same time and just end up wearing themselves out everyday and losing sleep because they don't want to fall behind in either. If you…
Instead, they choose to drop out and find it may be better to go straight to working to help their families out with their financial problem. Poverty often causes hard times and, “roughly 30 percent of students who drop out of school between the ages of 16 and 18 are working in a variety of jobs”(Rosales). Clearly, these students work to support their family in low-income communities. Most also feel it is a waste of time and others want to attend school, yet don’t have the opportunities to stay. Not all students from low-income families drop out to work, but for some their work hours may run into school hours. And for the low-income students work may be more crucial. They feel as though giving up on their education to help out their family is their final option. This decision of dropping out of high school will cost them all of their life’s potential. Because they did not receive a good education, they will most likely work low paying jobs throughout their live. These students are trading their futures for a cyclical they will have to live financial problem they have with for their whole life. If a student does not finish high school to work, “these workers usually fill low-skilled jobs and earn approximately $9,500 a year. About half work 40 weeks or more a year averaging 31 hours a week... On average, working youth contribute almost 22 percent to the family budget while approximately 10 percent of these teen workers contribute more than half”(Scott). Students who are under these circumstances work an average of 31 hours a week this does not allow them to focus on school and receive a proper education. Although they do not earn much money a year, it does make a difference. But is it really worth…
When students at a public university were interviewed about this, they said that coming from a middle class family with average income, it was very difficult to be able to afford college, and that they should be able to pay lower prices without sacrificing the quality of their education. They also felt that for the high price they were paying, they should be receiving more than what they were at their university (Meyerson 20). Many students who help pay their own tuition are forced to maintain jobs as well as keep up with their academic schedule. This can be very stressful for students, and often lead to poor academic performance. This can be very harmful because if students are forced to retake classes, then they will probably end up being forced to pay tuition for extra semesters. These students do not have any other choice because they must have a way to pay for their education. Some negative effects of having a job while in school may include “lack of sleep, insufficient time to focus on course work, decreasing personal or social time, and conflicts with extracurricular activities” (Collegeboard). Having a job can actually be very damaging to a student’s education. When a student is constantly fatigued from working all the time and trying to stay up late to study, they will not be able to give their best effort when it comes to learning. Even though a student might earn a passing…
Johan Cruijff once stated, “Every disadvantage has its advantage.” This famous quote leads to the issue of whether students should work or not work during high school, which has been a controversial hot topic in the Parent/Teacher Association. Working during high school may affect students’ school performance, yet working also provides invaluable working skills. According to the short article, “Part-Time Work Ethic: Should Teens Go For It?” by Dennis McLellan, “80% of high school students had held part-time jobs by the time they graduated” (270). Statistics show that the majority of the high school students held a position in a job during high school, and these students still graduated successfully.…
Department of Labor, 2000). Furthermore, even though most teens don’t have any financial responsibility of house, car payments and health insurance to worry about-because parents cover that, there are many potential benefits for them having a part-time job. Having a pay check will also help them learn money management skills, and with parents allowing them to go thru overspending with not a practical purchase, this too can help them think twice next time they want to overspend. It’s better to learn when young instead of in adulthood. It can also help them stay out of trouble with friends or avoid getting into any dangerous situations if they must go to work the next morning. Teaches them to invest a lot of their time in going to work and are less likely to spend their time frivolously or waste their money on trivial things. They will also use the reason of a job to keep themselves busy and stay away from teenage…
College is a fundamental and a foundation for many people's lives and the future of those lives. Nowadays, life doesn’t start until college is completed. Once you have accomplished the tasks of going to college, and you have learned all the aspects of the job you want to do, life starts because there’s no need to depend on anyone but yourselves. Granted, if you do not have a college degree, you can partake in these kinds of jobs: a Dental Hygienist, an Online Advertising Manager, a Web Developer, a Medical Secretary, a Paralegal Assistant, a Stenographer-Court Reporter, a Heater and Refrigeration Mechanic, a Surveyor, Executive Assistant, or an Insurance Agent. You could also be an Industrial Machine Repairer, a Cosmetologist, a Hair Stylist, a Tax Examiner- Collector, a Wholesales Sales Representative, a Construction,…
center. Most students in high school plan on going to college. Students who go to college usually end up building a pile of debt, but some do not. If students went to a career center, they could start a career early in their life. Some careers need further education; however, a career center could give people a job in the career that they choose. Many students have to work a fast food job in between classes in college, and they make minimum wage while working there. A career center could not only provide a job in the career that one chooses, but it could also provide a higher wage for someone entering the…
Ever wonder why the most mature and responsible teenagers have jobs but your playful teen, who won’t take the blame for anything does not or can’t keep one. Many high school students have jobs. Jobs teach responsibility and tend to help teenagers mature over time with this added responsibility. When some teenagers work at their first job they tend to start out playful and don’t really care much. But when these teens work they get a pretty good lesson about ethics and etiquette so if they are willing to learn instead of quitting they will turn out better than when they first started. Many jobs tend to teach lots of responsibility because a lot of things can fall into someone’s job description. Working while in High school is great because it stops teens from messing up their lives by giving them less time to do it.…
Being a teenager is expensive. Many people think that teenagers working a job during high school are a bad idea. Working helps high school students in the long run. Working can give a teen a little taste of the adult world. High school students can save up for college, it could help teens, but a car and stuff teens need. I can agree that it might be hard to go to school and work, especially if they also play a sport. It is a great idea to work and save up the money they needs in the future.…
A part-time job interferes with school in many situations. Even if the job is held after school and on weekends, many beneficial extracurricular activities operate at times that do not conflict with education. Most employers are hardly willing to a busy student's schedule. When students do successfully plan out-of-school events in accordance with a work schedule, hours of school followed by hours of work and hours of homework may be overwhelming for high school students. All of this considered, a student will sacrifice homework and actually be encouraged not to participate in school clubs and sports if working part-time.…
First of all, in relation of students academic performance, having to work other than school might gives them the thought of how important it is to be more responsible in dealing many things all at once with a shorter time than they used to have. Having a job could give a motivation on students of studying harder. Keeping up with decent grades or they will in time loose their job due to the fact of obtaining bad grades. Giving tremendous time for work in the result of students like me falling asleep in class and falling behind on homework that should have been finished in time if were not the trouble of the job after school.…
Second, teenagers doing part time jobs can earn money to pay for their cost of living and studying. In fact, many teenagers who study at a university in big cities are from the countryside, so they need a large sum of money to spend on their rent, school fee, foods and drinks. Only when working part-time can they earn enough to adapt to costly city life.…
