An Accident I Will Never Forget
Can you imagine being thrown from a car at 30mph? Well, I never thought I could until this happened to me in the summer of 2011.
It was a gorgeous June afternoon, and summer had just begun. I had just gotten my license, and I couldn’t wait to go cruising’ around. I had spent the day at my friend’s house, and now I was on my way home. I was almost home, I just had to turn onto the gravel road to get to my house. While I was turning, I was trying to put in a mix CD I had just made, and trying to turn the corner at the same time. I guess I was going a little too fast, because all of a sudden, I found myself lying in the ditch, outside of my car. I had the bitter taste of blood in my mouth. I was very scared.
I slowly got up on one leg and struggled up to the road. There was a man approaching and I waved. It was a man and he called an ambulance. While we were waiting for the ambulance I was hysterical like a child away from home. I couldn’t move or feel my left arm or leg. I felt like I was going to pass out from the pain. The man did everything he could think of to calm me down a little bit. He asked me questions about family, school, and pretty much anything he could think of. The man was braver than me. Later eventually, after what seemed like three hours waiting for the ambulance, it finally got there. The whole way to the hospital they asked me questions about my injuries and on what I remember about the incident. The pain was almost unbearable, so I told enough of what they wanted to hear, just so they’d shut up! They gave me something for the pain. After about 15 minutes in the ambulance we got to the hospital and they hauled me into the X-ray room and took X-rays of my arm and leg. The injury wasn’t too great thank goodness. Besides being alive, that was the best news I had heard all day. They brought me back from the X-ray room and molded casts for my arm and leg. A that time I was so scared like a mouse in front if a cat of how I was going to face my parents One bad thing was that the fractured bones wouldn’t allow me to use crutches, so I had to get around in a motorized wheelchair for a couple of weeks and it felt like a bird that can’t fly but it was better than walking in that state. My wheelchair was awesome! I ended up having the casts on for 6 weeks. I got to ditch the wheelchair after about a month. I kind of missed it. The best thing was that I got a lot of attention from the girls, because they carried around my books for me. After my accident experience and not the attention from the girls!! I learned a lot and I’m sure you won’t want the same to happen to you would you? I learned that it is very important to pay attention to the road while driving, not your CD player. I had to learn that the hard way. I totally jeopardized my life for a stupid CD that I wanted to listen to. I am lucky to be alive. Now, I slow down in life, and take my time. I don’t rush things, and when I’m driving, I pay attention to the road, and ONLY the road!

Once inside our house, I hopped over to the couch, and laid down.…

The moment I picked up my phone I knew something was wrong. The tone of my friend Danny’s voice sounded very grave and worn. The reason why followed in lowly uttered words. “CJ is in the hospital.” In sort of a daze I rushed to the hospital and found a way into the Intensive Care Unit. There in the bed was my friend with two broken arms and internal damage to his kidneys. At his side sat his mom. When I asked what happened, she said that Cj was hit off of Brooks Bridge by a drunk driver. A thirty-foot fall into the ground below, landing in the grass. Cj was two-inches away from the stone hard concrete that could’ve ended his life.…

The sky was nice and clear. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was perfect. It was a typical third grade day. My friends and I were in recess, goofing around, having fun. We sat on the benches and joked around. Next thing I knew my friend was on my back and I was carrying him around. Not aware of my surroundings, I tripped over a bench, closed my eyes, braced for impact, and fell face first into the dirt. I got up feeling dazed and the first thing I hear is a scream. Confused, I looked over to my friend and her face was a mixture of scared and shocked. I saw friends run to the restroom to get me paper towels, but others told me to go to the office. As I walked to the office, I began to feel pain in my lip. I walked into the office speechless.…

On the word excited she let go of my leg to wave her hands in excitement and my day got a whole lot worse. Pain was all that I knew. My world became a white hot flame of pain. My brain was filled with not so silent screams as my leg dropped off the table. I wanted to die the pain was so bad. Cursing and pleading came from the nurses as they tried to get my leg up and hold me still. I wanted to be still but i was no longer in control. I was shaking and screaming with the pain of a searing hot knife stabbing me over and over in the hip. I blacked out. I woke up in the hallway rushing way to fast to be safe. I was still in pain and i was still shaking. People were staring as i rushed by screaming bloody murder. It took ages it felt like time was molasses and there was no escape. More screaming came from nurses and doctors alike as i was rushed into my room. I heard my father yelling and a face came into focus. That face of the nameless nurse was the only thing that calmed me down. And it helped that she said the only thing that could make me feel better. “Lets knock him out.” they injected me with morphine and my world went…

I snap back to reality and notice that my speedometer read 30 mph. I was in a 20 mph zone. I slam on the brakes to slow down. Behind me, a driver lays on his horn to tell me how irresponsible my last decision was. I reach for the radio and turn the tuner dial until I find something upbeat and groovy. As I remove my hand, I begin to hit on the steering wheel like a drum. The steering wheel is black and coverless. It sounds good when I hit it. It is also keeping me awake at the moment. My step mom sat next to me in the passenger’s seat messing around with her phone. She never pays attention to me when I’m driving. I see a curb on the next right turn I have to take. After running over the curb, my step mom glances up to make sure I did not hit anyone. When realizing that everything is fine, she goes back to Facebook on her phone. The darkness of night was exhausting. My eyes fluttered in the beams of the yellow street lights. In a couple of blocks, I make another right turn. Then a left turn into my driveway. I turn off the engine and let out a sigh of relief. I reach for my door handle and pull, eager to go to my bed. My legs wobble underneath me as I stumble out of the truck. I am finally…

Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist.…

They carried me outside to where the ambulance was waiting. As they opened the back doors and placed me inside the ambulance, the harsh smell of chemicals and sanitizers hit me in the face like a brick. Once we were all in, we went to the hospital. By the time we arrived, my arm wasn’t as bloody anymore because they had cleaned, dressed and put a temporary sling around my arm in the ambulance. Mike asked me if my arm was giving me any discomfort but I told him I was alright. It was probably due to the pills one of the other men had given me while I was still in the ambulance. It was called anesthesia or something like that. Mike told us to follow him and we were lead into one of the hospital rooms. There was a sink, 2 chairs, a table, a television playing the news, a hospital bed and a ton of medical equipment I didn’t recognize, and just like the rest of the hospital it smelled like cleaner, chemicals and sanitizer. Mike told us the doctor would be coming shortly and with that he left. After what felt like an eternity, the doctor came in and checked my entire right arm up to my…

I knew that if i could stay awake it would be a lot easier on me but it wasn’t an easy thing to do. Around 3 hours of running, playing and the excessive blood loss i was taking a turn for the worse but we had soon reached the ER and she rushed me and my brother in and had us sit down. While she filled out a sheet and gave it back to the nice lady. In that time i was just sitting down finally stopped crying but my eyes were still watery and red. I looked around and saw some people who looked sick and people who looked worried and the others were patiently waiting for something while looking at magazines or on their phones. I remember staring...a lot, and i felt some stares back at me. Some guy had came into the room like 10 minutes later calling out my name so mom grabbed her things and followed the man along with my brother and myself. This team of doctors had me strapped down to a table and mentioned stitches and i started crying like a baby because my dad had told jokes about getting stitches before and made it sound really painful. They decided it wasn’t the best thought because the wound was too big for stitches. I felt more relieved than i did pain. They tightened the straps and began the procedure. Mom stayed by my whole side during the operation and held my hand they took 3 extremely large staples and drove one by one into my head and 4 or the rest had to hold me down from moving too much. They got a good grip on me and started pushing the first staple into my head and it hurt a lot because the pain pills wore off and it felt so painful. Try taking a nail to your head and push. When the operation ended i got a cars note book along with some crayons for…

I was soon released from the hospital, and allowed to go home. It is impossible to forget the lousy car ride home. It hurt to sit up straight, so I laid down in the backseat of my mom’s Ford Explorer, and proceeded to watch a movie. By the time I got home, my back was killing me. I was forced to stay on our couch for the next few days, and needed help walking and showering, since I was not allowed to do anything to harm the stitches placed in both of the open wounds.…

We stepped out into the night and drove to the hospital. Once we got there, the nurse asked me a bunch of questions. From 1-10, 10 being the worst, how much does it hurt? How did this happen? Oh yeah, I thought. I never really thought out how this all happened. So I guess it went like this: I sat on the couch, about to watch a movie. When I sat down, I sat on a broken piece of plastic. Then, my elbow started bleeding really bad, but the pain was worse Finally, I ended up at the hospital. After all of the questions, the nurse took me into a small room with my brothers and my dad. The room had a chair, a sink, and worst of all, a tray full of needles. I hated needles. I’ve already experienced what felt like a knife in my elbow, I can’t handle a needle now, I thought. When the doctor came in, she told me I needed 5 stitches. Great, now I need stitches! This day couldn’t get any worse, I thought. First, she stuck about 12 needles in my elbow to numb it. With every single shot, I squeezed my eyes shut, gripped my dad’s hand, and inhaled sharply. Then, she took a black, plastic thread, and began sewing my elbow together. I still remember my pink and white striped shirt, and my brand new blue shorts that were covered with tiny drips of blood. I looked away the whole time the doctor was stitching up my elbow, but by the look on my dad’s face, it definitely wasn’t pretty. All I felt was the tugging on my arm. After what felt like an eternity, she finally made a few knots at the end of the stitch. My brother took a picture and showed me. Eww, it looks like spiders, I…
