Birthday Celebration
Our topic of discussion is “BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION,”We have two opinion polls,

(A)Some of us think that there is no harm in celebration

(B)While others think we shouldn’t celebrate&I belongs to the this category.

& as I never celebrate birthday so I will talk about the disadvantages of Birthday celebration ,because I am against of birthday celebration..

First of all we should know the routes of the custom which we are celebrating,in other words ,what arguments do I have to celebrate it or not?

So here are my points..

(1)As we are Alhumdolilah Muslims,so first of all I will talk about Islamic point of view.

According to Islamic teachings, there are no any evidences to celebrate it that’swhy I will say it is “Unislamic”.The question arises how????

And answere is very simple, these birthday celebrations involve imitation of the Jews and Christians in their birthday celebrations. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), warn us against following their ways and traditions: “You would follow the ways of those who came before you step by step, to such an extent that if they were to enter a lizard’s hole, you would enter it too.” They said, “O Messenger of Allaah, (do you mean) the Jews and Christians?” He said, “Who else?” (Reported by al-Bukhaari and Muslim). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.”

(2)Another important point is that on this occasion there is a wastage of money.According to some people “Birthday celebration is a source of enjoyment&there is no mater to celebrate it”

But according to islam”Extravagance is an evil dead&people who extravagates are supposed to be brother of SHAITAAN(Devil).

And it is forbidden by Allah SWT to extravagate,so think about it

Do we feel enjoyment in disobedience of Allah SWT????

(3) Another point is that according to my thinking ,it is a way of enjoyment for only those persons, which have no any aim in life and

American Author Zane Gray once stated “I hate birthdays.” Perhaps he said this because he has had a bad experience with birthdays. Maybe he simply doesn’t like celebrating something as frivolous as a birthday. Personally, I concur with Mr. Gray’s statement, I too, hate birthdays. Even though the vast majority of the population enjoy their birthday and most likely consider it their favorite holiday, birthdays do not appeal to me however because of, my past natal day experiences, the annoyance of the annual overhyped celebrations, and my fear of being disappointed again.…

Stein and Stein (2011) delineate ritual as a patterned, recurring sequence of behaviors. Also, Stein and Stein (2011) define ritual as an essential component of religious practise. It may be prescribed by the traditions of a community; not all rituals are religious. The term usually refers to actions which are stylized, excluding actions which are arbitrarily chosen by the performers. A ritual may be performed on specific occasions, or at the preference of individuals or communities. It may be performed by a single individual, by a group, or by the entire community; in random places, or in places especially reserved for it; either in public, or in private. A ritual may be restricted to a certain division of the community, and may enable or underscore the passage between religious or social statuses. Moving onward, the purpose of a ritual varies. With religious obligations or ideals purposes vary from, satisfaction of spiritual or emotional needs of the practitioners, strengthening of social bonds, social and moral education, demonstration of respect or submission, stating one 's affiliation, obtaining social acceptance or approval for some event. It may also be for just pleasure itself. Anthony Wallace stated that “ritual is religion in action; it is the cutting edge of the tool. Belief, although its recitation may be part of the ritual, or a ritual in its own right, serves to explain, to rationalize, to interpret and direct the energy of the ritual performance … it is ritual which accomplishes what religion sets out to do” (Wallace, 1966, p.102). The ritual that I decided to observe was my mom and her twins 43rd birthday. A birthday is a day when a person celebrates the anniversary of his or her birth. Birthdays are celebrated in numerous cultures, often with a gift, party, or rite of passage. The celebration of a birthday usually is thought to mark how old a person is, traditionally stopping when…

Canadian traditions also tend to be closely tied to the country’s national holidays, which we discuss in more detail in that chapter. It should likewise be acknowledged that since Canada is a country of considerable diversity born from the eclectic immigrant heritage of its people, the traditions of individual Canadian families can vary greatly based on which customs they’ve decided to import from their former homeland. If there’s one thing Canadians really love celebrating, it’s the anniversary of their own birth. In recent years, birthdays have risen to become one of the most tradition-rich spectacles of modern Canadian culture.…
