Introduction:
‘The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night.’ - H W Longfellow

“That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind”, said Neil Armstrong, stepping on to the moon’s surface on 21st, July 1969.
Kalpana Chawla steeped into space, not once but twice. It proved to be a great leap for womankind especially for Indian woman. It was the bridge between the impossible and the possible. Kalpana said, “You can’t cross a great chasm in two short steps; it needs one big leap.”0

Birth: Kalpana Chawla was born on the 1stof July 1961 in Karnal, Haryana, into a middle class family, the youngest of four siblings.
She maintained a brilliant academic record throughout school.
She took part in almost everything, from athletics to dance and science modeling.

Dreams in Childhood: ‘A strong desire to travel beyond the blue yonder, to fly into the heavens and touch the stars some day .......’ was all that Kalpana Chawla dreamt of even as a child. Even as a young girl she preferred to sketch and paint airplanes than dress up her Barbie dolls. A close friend remembers that Chawla often spoke about traveling to Mars as being her greatest ambition. Not only did she dare to dream, but she also went the distance to fulfill her motto, ‘Follow your dreams’.

Education: Kalpana graduated from Tagore school, Karnal, in 1976. She went on to pursue her Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical engineering through Punjab Engineering College. She happened to be the only girl in the aeronautics branch. Though her family initially resisted her decision to pursue a career in aeronautics, they finally relented, knowing her determined nature. This led on to a Master of Science degree in Aerospace engineering from Texas University in 1984, again after having to fight it out with her father who was very

In recent years, human culture has been full of writers, directors, and story tellers alike who have been creating fearful tales of outer space; idealizing it as an eternal abyss where you are completely alone with no hope or salvation. giving the idea that if it's not from this planet then “it almost does not matter where they come from” (Fast 158). Instead we should see it as a new frontier of development; an endless span of time and space waiting to be discovered. Yet we still remain here on a tiny planet, examining space as…

Space exploration is the ongoing discovery and exploration of celestial structures in outer space by means of continuously evolving and growing space technology. The whole subject of space exploration is so vast, from the V2 Missile to the most recent launches of today. So, to narrow it down, this essay will cover some space exploration involving women. 536 people have gone to space. 58 of those were women. Eight of those flew in the Soviet/Russian Space program, two in the Chinese program, and the other 49 flew with NASA. (Women in Space, 2015) parenthetical citation…

A plane in my eyes is a symbol of traveling. I’ve never been on a plane before but I can only imagine how exhilarating it must feel when the plane is speeding down the runway like a bullet, as it is about to take off. All my life all I’ve wanted to do is travel and see the world. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been used to one thing and seem to stick with the same repetitive routine. I rarely step out of the set routine that consists of my life. In other words I stayed inside the box, never going forward or backward just staying in the same place. Over the years I realized that I didn’t want my life to stay in the same place never growing or improving, I wanted to get out there and see what the world has to offer. For me a plane not only represents traveling, but also freedom, freedom to take a path wherever one chooses to go. The image of a plane represents me because it is always going to new heights with different places and that is something I aspire to strive for in my present and future. On October 10th I will be going a plane for the first time and hopefully it will be the start of broadening my horizons.…

    Essay On The Space Race

I chose my topic from an event that has fascinated me my whole life. People throughout time have looked up at the stars, just as I have, and dreamed of their possibilities. Through the work of millenias, small steps and great leaps have been made in that exploration of the stars. The climax so far of this in history of exoplanetary discoveries came about during 1950s to 1970s, the Space Race. To me space has always been the ultimate wanderlust in mind. It is the true final frontier of man, but it could also be man's ultimate demise. This is apparent because the reason behind the Space Race was to stop that very dark outcome from coming to pass. To turn that void of darkness into wonders, not demise.…

Space, the final frontier. We are born with an elemental eagerness to make the unknown known, to discover the undiscovered. Since ancient times, we have ventured far and wide. That inexorable vigor has perhaps become humanity’s greatest virtue. And so then, the question is, are we done? We have explored the extremities of our planet, and space is mankind’s next giant leap. Therefore, we must wonder, is it worth it? Is exploring the infinite stretch of space worth our effort and our time?…

For the man who won 77 of the 80 races he ran, Milkha Singh has no medals. It has been some years that 'The Flying Sikh ' donated his sporting treasures to the nation. No personal souvenirs line his living room walls, no trophies sit on the mantle. Instead, the walls make do with pictures of the surgeon in America who saved his wife 's life and Havildar Bikram Singh, a Kargil martyr. "I have given permission that my medals be transferred from the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi to the sports museum in Patiala," says the 72-year-old Singh. Strangely, the stadium gallery lined with many of India 's sporting talent does not have a single picture of…
