Since opening in a suburb of a major metropolitan area two years ago, Pablo’s Pepper Pizza has consistently had a huge line of customers waiting for a table. Pablo, the owner, attributes this to his strong belief that customers are entitled to high quality food at inexpensive prices. His brand promise is to consistently create a fun, family-oriented environment centered around great food that won’t break the budget. This idea is demonstrated at many different touchpoints with customers. Parents can enjoy the $5.00 all-you-can-eat pizza and salad buffet while watching the game on the television screen. Kids receive a complimentary activity book along with a packet of crayons and unlimited trips to the dessert bar stocked with fruit, pizza, and cookies. From time to time, Pablo even personally invites the children to watch the pizzas being made through a glass window. The employees seem to enjoy this as much as the children do, especially when the children smile as the pizza dough is tossed high into the air. It’s a good thing, too – a friendly attitude is stressed at weekly staff meetings. During this time, Pablo also reminds the cooks to keep a fresh supply of a variety of pizzas on the buffet line, and he instructs the bussers to quickly clear dirty plates from the tables. All this must be working because the place is still packer!…

SWITCH on the telly and chances are that you will catch an old Hindi number. Now, they could either be from the numerous music channels playing retro numbers or songs running on television commercials . And with so many commercial breaks, one sees more Hindi songs as jingles for TVCs than the original song itself. So from ‘Pehli Tareek’ for Cadbury to ‘Hum jab honge’ for SBI Life to ‘I love you’ for Nestle Kit Kat, the list just goes on and on. It of course warms the cockles of the generation that’s grown up with the songs but it also gets the gen next confused — for some think it’s an original score. So these touched up, remixed hindi numbers — do they make the cut or are they just an easy substitute to creating an original jingle?…

Why people agreed to pay Rs.5 for attending Narendra Modi’s Rally? Why do we have people who build temples in name of Rajnikant and Amitabh Bachhan and not for any other equally successful movie star? Is it only because of the talents possessed by these individuals or something beyond that? Do these personalities “brand” themselves and consciously do or refrain from doing things that affect their brand image? We all already have a personal brand, every person does. In our profession, industry or area of expertise, our personal brand has grown like a pearl inside an oyster, built from layers of our behaviour, treatment of others, the result of our work and the things we say .Over time a blend of image, identity and reputation combine to create simple, clear perceptions about us in others. We all impact other people’s brands through nothing simpler than having a conversation about them when they are not with us. “A brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room” – Jeff Bezos, CEO Amazon. Also outside our immediate circle of friends and family, people know us primarily by our personality, reputation and past performance. In a sense, they know us by our Personal Brand.…
