Business Case Study: Stantec Inc.
Stantec Incorporated was a sole proprietorship founded in 1954 in a 250 square foot office in Edmonton by Dr. Don Stanley. It was initially named D.R. Stanley and Associates. In 1955, Stanley hired a railway engineer named Herb Roblin and a former chief bridge engineer named Louis Grimble. The company was renamed to Stanley, Grimble and Robin Ltd. In 1983, Stanley appointed Ron Triffo as president and COO, while Stanley retained his role as CEO and chair. The company formed an urban development company called IMC, which grew to include over 200 employees. This success led them to create over 20 more companies, and in 1994, they went public on the Toronto Stock Exchange. In 1998, Tony Franceschini became president and CEO, replacing Ron Triffo. …show more content…

This is because of some integration costs that they recently incurred. However, the costs are not recurring, so Stantec will be making much more profit in the future. Also, Stantec is soon starting a big project in New York. Stantec was recently chosen as the lead engineer for a $1.9 billion design-build railway project in Nassau County, New York. The project will involve adding about 16km of track to the Long Island Rail Road, expanding eight bridges across local streets, improving six train stations, and multiple safety improvements. Also, Stantec has signed a letter of intent to acquire a transportation engineering company in New Zealand called Traffic Design Group (TDG). TDG specializes in traffic, engineering planning, pedestrian access and mobility, master planning, and road safety. TDG provided consultant services for the conversion of Wigram …show more content…

While people were talking about the boards Burton created, the company concentrated on making the sport of snowboarding great and recognized by all. There was a rebellion against the skiing culture and the view that snowboarding was inferior. Skiers did not easily accept this new culture on their slopes, but Jake Burton, Burton Snowboards and others continued to push through the stereotypes and were successful at making snowboarding what it is today.…
