To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. I am certified in First Aid and CPR, which makes me knowledgeable of caring for accidents or injuries.…

Before and after breaks and lunch because I work in the baby unit we use cotton wool and water to wash the children’s hands and face, while some of the babies cant do this by themselves, there are other’s that can. While I wash the smaller children’s hands I would always tell the babies that it is important to wash our hands before we eat so we have no germs on our hands, I also sing different songs about washing i.e. This is the way we wash our face etc.…

In a baby room there needs to be lots of soft toys so that if the toys are being thrown around by the children then they can’t hit and hurt the other children. In a toddler and pre-school room the toys can be different they can start to introduce plastic in to the play times e.g. Lego and stickle bricks, at this stage children are learning about throwing and know that it’s unacceptable to throw. Plug sockets covers and door hinge covers must be fitted so that children to do not electrocute themselves or trap fingers in doors. Child safety catches must be fitted to every cupboard door and draw so that the children cannot get things and chemicals out the cupboards and draws. Desks need to be high off the ground so that children cannot reach things off them like the important paperwork and registers or pens and sprays. Windows must be higher off the ground or covers up by plastic sheeting so that the children cannot open the windows or fall out of them. Door handles must be higher up than usual so that the children cannot open the doors otherwise they could escape and stair gates must be fitted in baby rooms and top of stairs so that children cannot fall down.…

Making sure your child is safe should not be a priority. It should be a value. To say that safety is a priority means that it could change based on the needs or urgencies of the moment and will not always be on the top of your priority list. Safety is a mindset and an attitude for everyone; it must be considered a core value that is instilled in…

It is important to maintain a safe environment for students inside and outside of the classroom. My goal is to make sure that the children understand what being safe is. I make sure that they know how to play safe. All of the toys and the materials that the children use are safe. I make sure that there are no broken toys that may harm them around. The children along with me create the class rules. I make sure that the outlet plugs are in place and that the cabinets are secure. The children follow the classroom rules. I make sure that I supervise the children at all times. I also make sure that I observe the areas where they play, work, and eat. I make sure that shoes are tied. I make sure that the children use walking feet when we walk down the halls and in the classroom. When we transition to go outside we have to cross over an area where the cars drive. We make sure that we stop, look, and listen for cars and put out caution cones before we go to the playground. I also check the playground for sticks, trash, glass or any other items that can cause harm. I am also CPR certified so I know the procedure to help a child or adult in need. We have emergency plans displayed in the classroom. The children are aware of what to do in the case of emergency such as a fire. We make sure that the windows and the doors are secure at the end of the day.…

One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day.…
