Flannery O’Conner has written two great short stories that introduces to the reader very unique and yet similar characters. We have “Good Country People” and “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, both containing people who have trouble being true to themselves and lying to others. Who says that a good plotline is the most important element for a great piece of literature when you have manipulative and hypocritical characters to cause drama and suspense? The grandmother from “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, the salesman and Hulga from “Good Country People” are prime examples of people who exhibit duplicity and untruthfulness.…

The book also aims to provide an account on what works or not, when interacting with people; what to expect from them and what not to expect. Summarily, the second goal which Littauer attempts to attain is to inform the reader on how to manage expectations. Being familiar with different temperaments reduces misunderstandings which often take place when the attitude of an individual overwhelms us. The ability to understand our tendencies creates room for both acceptance and positive adjustment.…

    Profile of a Person

    • 1648 Words

There are a lot of people around Belmont University with different concepts, different goals, different experiences, different cultures, but most important, different methods of thinking. When I realized that I would need to write a profile of someone else, I thought it would be the easiest essay that I have ever done. Contrary to my expectations, I realized that to write someone else's profile is kind of hard, because it is not only a simple thing such as just write the entire life of the person. A lot of stuff is behind the profile of a person. When I first thought about who I should interview, I was kind of lost, because I do not know a lot of people inside Belmont yet, so I had the idea to interview one of my teammates from the soccer team. After thinking about it, I realized that interviewing one of my teammates would not be a very good idea, first because the majority or all of them have the same interests as mine, and are experiencing almost the same things as myself, and second because the thing that we most like in our lives is soccer, so it would be kind of boring to write about a person that looks like me in a lot of things.…

    the ideal person

    • 327 Words
    • 2 Pages

An ideal person through the eyes of Confucius would follow the rules of Heaven and obey Heavens will. Thus by adhering to the rules of Heaven that person would be morally attuned. Confucius believed that ‘aristocracy of merit’ was more valuable than ‘aristocracy of money’, and thus he believed that only the most qualified candidates should get a job, especially in civil service. This is one of the reasons that led him to value education. Confucius also thought that education was important because it led to better character and a better understanding of Heaven. Confucius preferred education and philosophy over military strength as is later reflected in Chinese society where scholars were revered and military personnel treated as out casts. The five Confusion virtues are ren (the virtue of benevolence, charity, and humanity), yi (honesty and uprightness), zhi (knowledge), Xin (the virtue of faithfulness and integrity), and Li (correct behavior, or propriety, good manners, politeness, ceremony, and worship). Ren believed in the Golden Rule. What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others. Hi believed in respect for superiors and enacts his role in society in such a way that he himself is worthy of respect and admiration. Shu believed in self analogy, reciprocity, and the Golden Rule. Wen believed in the arts of peace, music, poetry, art, and virtue. Xiao believed in obedience, devotion, respect for one’s parents and elders, and in reaching the state of idealism. According to Confucius; one must understand the need for good moral character and good government. Being of good moral standing gives way to the many concepts of the Daodejing. Confucius believed that if everyone lived this way harmony within ones-self, those who ruled and nature became balanced.…
