The warm summer breeze pulled open my eyes. It was the dead of night and nobody was stirring except me. I walked over to the large tinted bay window, the source of the warm Venetian breeze. Even though my eyes were still heavy with sleep, I could still make out the wonderful view. The thick, almost swampy, polluted canal had been blue-green in the sunlight but had now turned as black as a crow’s feathers with nightfall. The boats danced on top of the water. The bridge hung over the water just high enough to let boats pass under it. To me the tall, majestic buildings framed my view. The buildings were as unique as kernels of popcorn not one building was identical. Some were as intricate as a butterfly’s wings while others were as plain as pebbles. I looked up to see that the sleeping sun was awakening, and as I went back to bed I knew this dark view of Venetian canal with it’s boats, buildings , and bridges is one I’ll never forget.

Once there, we heard the unmistakable whine of a puppy in distress. Well, we couldn’t let that continue! It was our duty to help the little animal. Besides, we reasoned that our parents might let us keep any aforementioned animal as a pet. So, we began to earnestly call out to the puppy. Suddenly there was a flash of deep-russet fur. Standing directly in front of us was a very large female Doberman pincher. Her legs were stiff; her muscles quivered; her yellowed fangs glistened with spit. She filled the area with her deep rumbling growl of rage and challenge. All rational thought fled. I couldn’t move or speak. It felt like someone seized my heart with an iron grip and squeezed. I couldn’t get enough air. I barely heard my sister hiss at us to run on three. Then I was just moving. The world narrowed. My bedroom is a cozy, yet quiet place to come to. It may not be the biggest of many bedrooms, but when you walk in the white oak door you see the four walls painted a tan color. There is also white trimming lining the walls. Everything in my room is white, black, or tan.
