Don’t judge a book by its cover
I tend to judge people to quickly without even knowing anything about them. I was always told “don’t judge a book by its cover”, by English proverbs, which is true. You cannot tell what is on the inside just by looking at the outside of things, and I never know what that person is going through in life to be able to judge them just on looks.
I sometimes judge my friends in ways that I should judge them. I judge them by their actions. For example, when one my friends are trying to get a guys attention and I can just tell that they are doing so, that is judging. I shouldn’t judge them about that because I have no reason to and it isn’t my duty to do so. I also tend to judge my friend by the other people they hang out with. I usually confront them and tell them things without even knowing their situation with the person. I have no idea if they are helping each other or not so I should stay out of their business. Several times I judge my friends by their emotions. I believe they are sometimes over reacting about some of the things they are emotional about. I should probably help them and try to make them feel better.
I judge my classmates that I have no clue about or what they may be going through. For instance, I judge the quiet ones when I really shouldn’t. I am a quiet person too so I know how they feel. Everyone has a reason behind the way they are and they shouldn’t be judge for it. I judge the ones who stay to themselves and don’t talk to anyone. They may be like that because they have been hurt for so long and are trying to not get hurt again. They may become the nicest people in life and I am sitting around judging them without even getting to know the person. I judge the loud mouths that look like they are screaming out for attention. They may be doing this because they never get attention at home. I have no reason to judge them by their actions.
I constantly catch myself judging complete strangers who I have never seen before in my entire life. I judge them by the way they appear. I have no idea what these strangers go through or why they go through the things they do. They may look the way they look because they are fighting to get their life back on track. I constantly judge strangers by the places they work. I don’t know if they haven’t made it through school or if their parents never helped them succeed. They are usually the strong ones who are getting their life back together by working as many jobs as they can.
I know that I can never judge a book by its cover, the cover does no justice. It isn’t right to judge others in any way, shape, or form. It is such a habit that I don’t realize that I am judging someone sometimes. When I catch myself judging others about something I keep it to myself. Judging hurts and I really need to work on watching what I say or think about others and what they do and why they do it.

“It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive.”(Leadbeater) Many people believe the way something is perceived, is always the way that it appears to be. In reality, there might be more to a person he is willing to show. If we assume that the way someone or something is seen is always as it appears to be, we would be lying to ourselves. A surplus of people are not exactly how they are seen to be. We should not judge someone too harshly as we may not have all of the facts or details of what is really happening to a person. Perceptions can override our abilities to correctly judge our peers and even ourselves, which can be very impactful.…

When evaluating or sizing up people for the first time, we use a “schemata” (Morris & Maisto, 2010, pg. 456) or preconceived set of beliefs or expectations about the category or type of person that we initially believe them to be. We look at their clothing, hear their speech patterns and pay close attention to their body language. After this we generally delve into their personality deeper while investigating their personal beliefs and morals while comparing them to our own. Using these schemata though will often lead to stereotyping but no matter how often it is wrong while receiving first impressions, we usually continue to use those preconceived beliefs when meeting new people.…

I was skeptical about one of my now good friends, Tristan. The reason for this is me and Tristan got into a fist fight in sixth grade. We fought because I thought he was trying to fight my friend, William because Tristan looked mean, after the fight we ended up talking and it turned out that my William and him were just messing around and it was all a misunderstanding. I judged Tristan because of his look and how he acted without knowing him, now we are good friends and play Clash Of Clans together. This anecdote relates to the story Freak the Mighty By Rodman Philbrick because I judged Tristan because of the way he looks, just as everybody did to Max at the beginning of the story but in the end they find out how they perceived him wasn't how Max really is.…

Recently on the internet, there has been a meme circling around. It starts with a person about to engage in something ridiculous, such as shaving their eyebrows, cutting their hair, etc. However, they stop at the last second, turning to the camera to say, “Don’t ever judge a book by its cover.” Though this meme is purely for entertainment purposes, the concept of making unfair judgements has been around for generations. Consequently, ample authors use the theme of not judging others in their works. For example, in Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare, the character Isabella argues that, “We cannot weigh our brother with ourself” (2.2.156). This quote can be interpreted in quite a few different ways, but the two that are the most prominent are that you cannot compare the actions of one human being to another, and that the only person you have the right to judge is yourself.…

All people are different. Sometimes, if a person doesn't look or act in a way that is familiar to us, we can make assumptions about that person even though we don't know who they are, or their full story. Many people wouldn’t ever admit that they can be prejudice. Even if you are the nicest, most non-judgemental person in the world, you are most likely going to judge people at times. It’s hard to admit, but I sometimes find myself judging people a lot by what is on the surface. It is human nature to pre-judge but I try my hardest not to.…

This speaks truth to the statement you never really know somebody until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. And in most instances I highly doubt a mile would be long enough to fully grasp what an individual has gone through in their life. Human beings always seem too quick to pass judgment and therefore pass off each other when people should be more open and accepting.…

The saying that we all know from when we were younger about how sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will never hurt us, is a complete lie. Just by saying a nice word can make someone’s day go from hell to them feeling like they can overcome the difficult day, but that can be the total opposite too. Someone may be having a wonderful day, seeing how nothing could go wrong, until someone is quick to judge them, and their day can dramatically change from a good day, to a day where they start down grading themselves, sometimes to the point where they may not even want to live anymore. This relates to my life because so many people these days are quick to judge and jump to conclusions before they know all the facts. For instance in the book the Blind Side by Michael Lewis, many people in the society are very quick to judge character Michael Oher. He’s big, tall, black, practically homeless, is going to a very nice school, and his mother is a drug addict and abuses alcohol. Michael is a very smart young man, many just think that “he was ignorant, but a lot of people mistake ignorance for stupidity and knowingness for intelligence.” (Lewis -). Michael was being judged every day because of where he came from, he was different from everyone else, and that the school that he was attending was…

“Don’t be over self-confident with your first impressions of people” – Chinese Proverb. Even though people try not to make preconceived notions, it just seems to happen instantly and uncontrollably. Once you have “branded” that person with your preconceived notion, they will always seem like that when you see them and it would be hard to change your mind about them. The only way of knowing how people are truly is to simply give them a chance and talk to them and get to know them better because you may never know when your notion may be overthrown. It is my personal experience to say that my first impression of someone who is now one of my closest friend have been overthrown when I took a chance and talked to her.…

People are judged on many factors, their outer appearance, their color, their religion, and their viewpoints. When we look at these factors and judge a person exclusively on them, we can affect future generations. These prejudices can be passed on to children with many harmful effects. Children often adapt the beliefs of people around them. So it is important for adults to be careful about what they say or do in front of children. Being judgmental has many negative effects. If we judge the beliefs of family, friends and neighbors without really getting to know them we are being unfair. We must develop our own set of principals, to decline negative and unfair influences around us, and to avoid making suppositions.…
