Electronic Devices in Use!

Electronic Devices in USE! Electronic devices, including cell phones, are very helpful resources during school hours. Emergencies always happen and in case of emergency cell phones come in handy. Students are required to pay attention in class, yet no one said anything about having to pay attention during lunch or passing periods. There should be no worries about students being distracted during lunch, or passing periods because class is not in session! Electronic devices should be allowed during school hours. Parents always want to keep in touch with their children to see how they are doing during school. Maya Cohen bullet points some pro’s about cell phone use during school hours, and two of those were, “You can keep in touch with your children and know their whereabouts and if in danger, your children can reach the authorities or a medical provider.” When severe accidents happen, there’s really no way to communicate with others because of this rule. Because of this rule, you don’t get any help because of the fact that you cannot use cell phones. In one of Maya Cohen’s pro’s she mentions how phones can be silenced during class or study periods and active only in appropriate places. Because of a small mistake, students get punished with on fault. A teacher can assume that you’re texting because your phone went off, but they don’t have actual proof. Students need a stand for this because accidents always happen. My next claim is that other electronic devices like cameras and Ipods don’t make any disruptions unless they’re being used during teaching hours. Cameras are useful for special occasions. Special occasions can come up and you want to take pictures for memories. Students have lives too, and every student has a birthday. When they come up we all want to take pictures with friends but can’t because of the rules. It’s not like you’re taking pictures of anything disturbing during school time. As

The second reason that students shouldn't be allowed to use cell phones in school for education is for the sake of the teachers, a teacher should not have to fight for the attention of his or her students due to technology. After twenty years of teaching history and ESL for Lowell High School, Miriam Morgenstern is quitting her job for multiple reasons. One of Morgenstern’s reasons for quitting is her students and their cell phones, she explains her frustration, “The texting, tweeting, and snapchatting during class time are ‘an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,’ she said. ‘It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.’” It is unacceptable that students are using their phones while the teacher…

Should students bring electronic devices to school? Some people agree with that, and some others are not; opinions are widely divided. In the article “Hang It Up,” by Jesse Scaccia, students who have electronic devices in class can affect their performance. Scaccia gives us a couple of examples. First, children have cellphones are distracted. Also, the reason children want to take cellphones to school is that cells make them look cool. Lastly, some parents say that they need to keep in touch with their children for an emergency. I strongly agree with the author when he states that cell phone use distracts students’ attention.…

There is more than one side to the debate about cell phone availability during school. One claim is that students should be allowed to have their phones on them and use their cell phones during appropriate times. In the article, the authors provide details about how there are numerous reasons why cell phones should be allowed during school. Students should be allowed access to cell phones, because if they are responsible enough to be going off to college in a year or so, they should be responsible enough to have a cell phone on them and use it wisely (George and Cook). Another reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is because otherwise it can create a divide between the students and the teachers. Students are so invested in their phones, so if a teacher…

They say that to be able to use phone students need to learn how to use them appropriately. One of the main reasons for this rule is cheating on tests. Staff worries that if students have access to their phones during tests they will use them to their advantage, this is also why some teachers do not allow students to listen to music during a test. Students may also take advantage of these situations and go on social media, text friends, and use their phone inappropriately. Students can also get distracted if they are on their phones during a lesson. They could text a friend and if they reply back the phone could make a noise or it could vibrate and not only distract the student who's phone it is, but the whole class. Teachers say that if students want to be able to use their phones more they need to learn how to use their phones appropriately and responsibly. There can be lots of problems with phones at school but if students use them responsibly there will be little to no problems at all.…

For various reasons, I believe schools should ban the use of cell phones at school. Some people might argue that students could use their cell phones as educational tools; however, personally, I am one of the students who you could say has a “cell phone addiction.” I am usually the one teachers catch texting from the corner of their eye as my fingers move quickly across the keyboard of my cell phone during class. Also, teachers find cell phones distracting. If a student is texting during class they cannot put their full, undivided attention into what the teacher is saying, there for what is the point of trying to explain something to someone who isn’t paying attention. Finally, teachers come to school to educate students because it is their job, and they find it disrespectful if a student isn’t listening.…

I strongly agree that cell phones should be allowed on school grounds. I have two reasons to support my opinion. First having cell phones can be a helpful learning tool to teachers. Max Gold supported my opinion. He stated “By using texting as a positive tool instead of a means of distraction educators can now have student’s text in the answers that the students have questions on. Also Greenberg High School stated “The Students who have a smart phone can use various applications that are designed to assist in learning and designed just for students. Many of these smart phones have programs that are similar to what is found in a laptop or desktop computer. Being able to quickly look up facts on the internet is possible on many phones. If a student needs assistance with class work and does not have access to a computer, a smart phone can be used in a snap. Also most private schools allow cell phones. In private schools the prevailing view is that cell phones are here to stay. They are an essential line of communication between frantically busy parents and their children. As a result, most private schools allow cell phones on their premises with the understanding that phones must be turned off during class and only used under certain conditions and in specified places. Most schools have very specific guidelines written into their handbooks and acceptable use policy manuals. All students agree to abide by those rules both while on the school premises and also while under the school's jurisdiction when off campus. second opinion is parents can keep in contact with their children. Maya Cohen supported this reason by stating that “Cell phones create a convenience that was previously unavailable. With cell phones, you…

Most school administrations regard cell phone use as disruptive and distracting, and have implemented policies that prohibits using them on school grounds. Cell phones are a disruption in school. Text messaging can be used to cheat on tests. Students who are text messaging are not able to give full attention to the lesson. If a student cell phone rings in class, it totally disrupts the class for a considerable period of time. Many cell phones are also camera phones. Reason 1 Paragraph-Distractions are a teachers worst nightmare, and so phones being added to the classes would be a big distraction. One reason phones should not be added to the class is in the article “Cell Phones in Classrooms? No! Students Need to Pay Attention,” it states they could be used inappropriately. This shows that cell phones can be a distraction because most fifth graders have some type of social media, so how do we know they aren't snapchatting their friends or posting funny photos of their teacher? Another reason is in the article lift the cell phone ban it states…

Phones shouldn’t be permitted at school because they can be a big distraction to learning. Most teachers approve of my outlook on cellphones. Texting during instruction can hurt your grades. Grades on report cards are stumpy due to cell phones. The purpose is because many students don’t participate in instruction instead they are texting, or on the web. (Pew Research survey states) "In 2008 76% student’s texted in class…

Another reason cell phones should not be banned in classrooms is because students can use them as a reminder or planner. Generally, cell phones have a calendar built in the device. In my biology class, I have a unit 5 test, unit portfolio assessment and a lab report due all on different days; I used my calendar app in my cell phone to be a reminder. Therefore, cell phones can remind me that I have assignments and tests coming up. This shows that a cell phone can benefit students in the classrooms.…

Clearly, cell phones can have a negative impact on students and their ability to learn during school hours. They should in fact be banned during class time so the student can learn properly. Cell phones are obviously a distraction and it takes the purpose of communicating away. They can be nice at times but they should definitely not be allowed during school hours. Students need to focus on their school work and sports instead of how many people liked their Instagram…

Cell Phones shouldn't be aloud in schools because of all the bullying and harassment that goes on in the classroom. They could use their cellular devices for cheating on worksheets, quizzes, and tests. Students can take pictures of other students without their permission and post them on social media accounts like Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. But Cell Phones should be aloud in school because they can take their homework home and be able to find their assignments easier. They should also be allowed in schools because it is easier for the students to follow along in reading and watching videos.…

As reported by a Harvard study, 92% of Harvard students text during class. “Those who texted frequently took lower quality notes, retained less information, and did worse on tests about the material.” And students know that using their phones is dropping their grades. In one survey, 80% of Harvard students admitted that using their cellphone in class decreases their ability to pay attention. Not only does using a phone in class distract the person using it, it also distracts the people next to them. Another study on laptops in a classroom concluded that students near another student who was on a laptop during class scored worse on a test than those who were by themselves. While cell phone screens are smaller, the same thing can very likely happen when applied to cell…
