Advances in technology has affected the ways in which movies are produced, distributed, and exhibited. Today we can arrizcs, watch, rent or purchase just about any major/blockbuster film through hand-held devices, iTunes platform, technology industry giant Apple offers movies for sale and rent. In recent times Netflix has provided customers the option to rent by mail or access movies online. Movies are offered cheaper and trips to video rental stores such as Blockbuster are avoided or eliminated. In fact, Blockbuster has been navigating troubled waters for quite some time a direct result of the ever growing popularity of the Internet and other technologies. To that end, Blockbuster has made moves to adjust and adapt to the new environment. These days producers and directors have some amount of flexibility and leverage in marketing their products. There are many movies are made available for download and sale via the Internet. Independent talent sees/uses the Internet as venue to be seen and or discovered. Outlets such as YouTube provide a platform for straight to the Internet films. It is cheaper in some cases to use technology although some people still like to go to the movie theater. Where theaters still hold a small advantage is availability. Sometimes it takes a while for movies to be available through Netflix, IMDb, or Blockbuster.
Changes to the way movies are produced, exhibited and distributed definitely have impact on the quality and depth of the films. Full-length movies created soley for the Internet are difficult to come by. Watching a movie on a smaller screen for example and iPad or smartphone often result in details being lost. Filmmakers contend that this decreases the enjoyment of the person watching it. I strongly believe there are some movies that are best seen on a bigger screen TV or the movie theater, add 3D and the experience is taken moved up another level. For example Total Recall, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Colin Farrell and

I am assigning the online period introduction overviews and online quizzes for both the 8th and 9th editions of The Norton Anthology of English Literature (NAEL) because each provides some information that the other does not. As you will see in the reading list below, I have also assigned the introduction to this literary period in your textbook and provided the page numbers for the 9th edition. If you have another edition of the text, you will need to locate the pages numbers in the table of contents. Although the publisher of your textbook makes some changes in its web support site when a new edition of a text comes out, it rarely ever makes any changes in the introductions to the literary periods.…

Online however, Blockbuster faces different circumstances. In general, the internet will reduce barriers to entry for new companies by eliminating the need for an established sales force and existing channels. In addition, the internet makes applications difficult to keep proprietary. The internet has allowed Netflix to enter and become the leader in the online video rental business. Netflix has lower proportional upfront capital requirements than a chain of traditional movie rental stores. In addition, its distribution centers can be built in low-cost areas, and current distribution centers can cater to distant customers until local penetration rates justify building new ones (Jackson). Netflix, along with smaller players Wal-Mart and…

There are so many elements and components used in creating and analysis a movie. However, before we take a look at those elements, let’s take a look at the history of films. Let’s start with silent films; many silent films were produced in the United States back in the early 1900’s. However, filmgoers never really got to enjoy the film in the theaters as they were intended to be seen. Silent films were meant to be viewed with the intentions of a full musical orchestra behind the film as was the case with The Birth of a Nation in 1915 (Griffith, 1915). The silent film, with the full musical composition playing behind it, made the movie experience seem much more complete. Now days, so many years later, after the original context, the films have lost the excitement as was intended by the directors.…

Film, whether on screen or play has been dated as far back as the cavemen days. Humans have an inherent desire to be heard and see. In the present 21st century there is an abundance of locations to choose from when selecting a film to watch. Although movie watching for many is a favorite pastime, there are comparisons and contrasts on whether it is more enjoyable at home or in the theater.…
