The National minimum wage act 1998
It is part of the European Union law that states we are entitled to minimum wage that increases each year with the cost of living.

The Employment Law Relations Act 1999
Employers have to recognise trade unions

The working Time Directive 1999
The maximum working week hours are 48 hours unless you opt out and agree to work longer hours if you wish to do so.

Race Relations Act 1976
To protect against racial preferences.

Sex Discrimination Act
To protect against sex discrimination, in either promotion, job advertising and training and development opportunities.

Equal Pay Act
So that men and woman doing the same job role within a company are on the same rates of pay.

Task 3
Contract of employment
Contracted hours: zero hours contract so this would mean where hours are available with our availability we will be offered them but they have no legal obligation to offer any work.
Annual leave: we are entitled to 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year pro rata
Absences: you must report any absence at least an hour before work to either the office within work hours or to the on call out of hours service, stating the reason for absence and the possible return date. For the first days you can self-certificate after that a sick note is required. You may be required to undergo a medical on your return to work.

Tax code: how much you can earn before tax
Ni number: unique to you to entitle you to benefits and nhs
Net to date: total pay to date after tax
Gross pay: before tax
Income Tax: how much tax you have paid on your earnings
Pension: how much you have paid into your pension
The amount of pay you actually bring home.

Task 5
Grievance policy
Stage 1: put you grievance down in writing.
Stage 2: a meeting is arranged just so it is clear what your grievance is.
Stage 3: the outcome. You can then get a second impartial person and a representative.
Stage 4: you can then appeal.

TASK 11
Nurses going back to basics have been highlighted recently, nurses having to spend a year as a care worker before being able to train as a nurse this would help as not many nurses can do the basic tasks involved in personal care etc.
Abuse in care homes an on-going problem due to the lack of pay and the demand for this role. It’s always going to be this way until something is done to make the job a skilled profession but then the rate of pay would have to reflect this.
