Quality. Batching plants, ready mix trucks and other machineries should be certified and be inspected on a regular basis. Weight scales, volumetric measuring devices and admixture dispensers should be calibrated frequently. Trucks should be inspected on a regular basis for blade wear, build-up, accuracy of water measurement and functioning revolution counters. Batching plants should have a process for preventing contamination of cementitious materials. There must be a process for controlling mix water in batches to not exceed design.
For quality, the company should have a system for providing concrete technology training for newly hired workers in technical and non-technical roles. The company must have a certain number of Quality Control (QC) technicians for a given annual concrete volume. QC personnel at both the technician and higher levels should hold relevant certifications for their positions that are offered by relevant authorities assigned by the government. QC personnel should participate in local technical activities such as training and certifications.
Overtime. Working overtime is something common is this business because some contractors would like to speed up so as to avoid fines for delay of work. Although workers are paid for doing their work beyond normal working hours but their quality of work will not be up to standard due to fatigue.
Time. It is important to deliver the concrete products on time to the customer because time equates to money, by not being punctual the company loses its trust from its customers which will affect its reputation. Time will also affect the quality of product; it will decrease the quality of the products.
Cost. The concrete products though of high quality should not be priced at an exorbitant price because doing so will also affect the company’s reputation as it reflects that the company is profit oriented.
