Gardening Club Leadership Essay
I “majored in unafraid” in the beginning of the school year when I was voted to be the President of the Gardening Club. At first, I was worried I wouldn't be taking the right steps as a leader and emulate a best friend of mine. Until that point, I had not realized all of the preparation that goes into being the leader of anything. Suddenly, it was my responsibility to make sure all of the materials were purchased, taken care of, and ready for each meeting. In order to be an adequate leader, I needed to make myself an expert in areas of advertising, accounting, and file keeping. I created fliers to recruit more members and kept an accurate roster of all members. It also became my objective to spread awareness around my school to consider

Leadership is about being a role model and having a positive impact on people through working and living by example. Leadership is about consciously changing and challenging yourself for a purpose you believe in. For example, when I started my college education, I didn’t know what leadership meant. During my years in college I began to understand and learned that leaders are not born, they are developed.…

Under the presidency of S.A.D.D (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in my high school, I've conducted and lead many projects to help many organizations and even planned and coordinated many community service projects. But, out of the many project that the club and I have planned and created, I would have to state that I've projected my leadership role the most while our club and I went to Feeding South Florida for a field trip that I've planned. The reason why I state this is because, Feeding South Florida was a common place that many people knew, especially our members, and so before we got to the warehouse, I've explained the purpose Feeding South Florida stands for and the job that we would have to do there. When we got to the warehouse and began working, I would help the members and other volunteers carry boxes that were a bit heavy for them to carry and to help them understand how to sort the items that were donated to the warehouse into categorized boxes that they had provided to us. The purpose on why I led this project is because of the purpose behind Feeding South Florida, which is to collect, pack and send foods to the many shelters and food kitchens that they have provided in South Florida and working on this project created a positive effect on my life. The reason why I state this is because, while volunteering, it made me feel as if I was privileged.…

Everyone aspires to be a leader. No one wants to be the quiet person in the room that sits back, while looking for the guidance of others. The desire to be a leader troubled me greatly in the past, because I wanted to be the one that innovated new ideas. I knew I was a quiet kid, but all of my worst fears were solidified when I learned of my first grade teachers thoughts of me which were “ a follower, not a leader”. I tried to brush it off, and disguise my true feelings, but that is not the way I wanted others to perceive me as in any way. Although it is difficult to replace these preconcieved notions, I have consistently worked to show others what I’m made of. All I needed was the opportunity to prove others that they were wrong. Especially since I like to think that it is the quiet ones we need to look out for.…

Chartering and being in charge of a club can be very rewarding, but there can also be a plethora of obstacles that have to be overcome. I am the president of the Best Buddies program – a program that seeks to increase interactions between people with and without special needs – at my high school, and I was the first person in my county to charter this program which was back when I was in the eighth grade. Being the President of this specific club is very challenging and unique: it requires you to work with a wide variety of students – in the mainstream setting and those with special needs – and those students’ parents. From these challenges, I learned the value of persistence and the importance of keeping to your word no matter what life…

Due to my willingness to confront injustice and take action, others describe me as a confident leader. For the past two years I have seen the emotional struggle that hundreds of families have faced through my work at the Ronald McDonald House. Because of this, I have dedicated my time to preparing and serving them dinner on a monthly basis. While working at the House, my peers noticed my willingness to do any task that needed to be done because I was confident in my ability to learn something new, no matter how difficult it may be. Because of this, I was chosen to be the co-leader of the project. It is easy to say that my confidence has given me the ability to support the causes I believe in through both service and…

Throughout my experiences, I have gained insight into what makes an effective and respected leader. Correspondingly, I have learned that maintaining group focus while avoiding dominating every decision is vital to have fruitful administrative endeavors. Being a youth representative for my church and a volunteer coordinator for my school’s chapter of National Honor Society have required efficient uses of my leadership skills. As I continue through life, I hope to foster my leadership abilities and use them to unite people and attain our mission.…

My inner goddess was brimming with pride. This election was Kristi Yamaguchi’s gold medal. I bore on my shoulders ten Key Clubs in my division. Everywhere I went, I was reminded of my responsibility to fulfill my duty: “Did I tell my clubs that monthly reports are due on the 5th yet? Nope, got to send an email about that.” The notes and reminders app on my phone was in frequent use. In the hallways at school, I strode independently with an aura of self-assurance and maturity echoed in every step. I had a job to lead the clubs in my division and represent the Key Clubs in my…

Through the course, I learned about leadership different styles and how they emerged and developed from the Trait Theories that focus on the leader characteristics to the Goal Orientations Theories that require collaborative methods between leaders and followers. As I mentioned before, I had always linked the leadership weight to the leader leading characteristics. However, I would argue now that leadership is gained through practice and experience and it is powered through followers. As a school leader, I will use a mixture of leadership theories. First, I will build my school on an ethical basement and then, I will structure a vision that is shared between everyone in the school. At this point of my study, I believe that the type of leadership…

During the times of leadership, I am completely unaware that I am being a leader; only that I try to help the best way I can, to make situations easier for others. For example, giving input on how to create a better workflow or trying to get my daughter’s cheer team the items they need. In turn, my leadership with the help of others would result in 15 girls attending UC Berkley Cheer Camp. With money being the main challenge, I began brainstorming different ideas to solve the problem. Knowing I could not raise the money alone, I called a parent meeting encouraging others to participate. By having this meeting, I soon realized how much of a leader I was. Consequently, we raised a total of $5000.00, exceeding the amount required for cheer camp. As a result the girls not only learned that hard work will pay off in addition, it also brought them closer as a team.…

My experiences and accomplishments have taught me how to become a leader and allowed me to expand and sharpen my skills. To become a leader, I believe one has to be flexible, understanding, do what is best for the club and others despite external opposition, and have the ability to follow through on decisions with unfaltering determination. Operation Smile Club and the off-campus experiences have allowed me to fulfill this belief, and I look forward to playing a proactive role in college and in the years to…

One of the requirements of being in the Honors Leadership Program (HLP) is that first-year students live in the HLP Living Learning Community (LLC). When I found this out, I was excited as I would be able to live and develop relationships with students who were driven and striving to reach the same goal. I also did not have worry about what dorm I would live in, and I was quite happy to have that stress taken away. Now, all I had to do was find a roommate.…

This essay will present my views about the leadership lessons discussed in the book I recently read entitled Toy Box Leadership written by Ron Hunter Jr. and Michael Waddell (2008) as part of my learning reflection on the essential socio-cultural and personal competencies discussed in the unit CPD1102. The authors used the toys that we as kids love way back to explain leadership principles that are reflected in each toy. It was an entertaining and exciting experience to go back to my childhood as I read about my favorite toys mentioned in the book while I learn, better understand and know by heart some important leadership concepts that are very beneficial to aspiring managers like me. It made me realize how much work I still need to do to further improve myself in terms of becoming an effective leader because for a long while I have believed in my own style and also imitated others without really knowing why I choose to be that kind of leader. I have discovered different values behind leadership which are surprisingly relevant to my previous experiences and dealings with my previous managers. In the following paragraph, I will discuss each toy leadership concept and show my understanding about it by identifying its significance and relevance to the eight socio-cultural and personal competencies that I am expected to develop over the next two years until my course completion. Then in the end after the discussion you will never look and think of each toy the same way again.…
