8.4 Which has the greater proportion of Iron, Magnetite, or Hematite?
Hematite has the greater proportion of iron.
8.7 When the reverse switch of a drill is thrown the drill rotates in the opposite direction. How does that affect the drill’s circuitry?
When the reverse switch of a drill is thrown, the circuitry of the drill changes its magnetic field. Where it was positive before, it will now be a negative. Likewise, when the drill is switched back to positive, it will go from positive to negative.

8.9 Name the 2 other spheres.
The two other spheres are hydrosphere and atmosphere.

8.11 As Columbus’s fleet sailed westward the discrepancy between magnetic north and celestial north changed. Did it increase of decrease?
The discrepancy between magnetic north and celestial north increased enough that Columbus’s men wanted to turn back and not complete the journey.

8.12 Explain the difference in the orientations of the inclined compass needles in figure 8.18.Toward which cardinal direction is the observer facing?
Much like a toile flushing counter clockwise in the southern hemisphere, compass needles face the opposite direction. In the southern hemisphere, the needles of the compass would face north, while in the northern hemisphere, the needles would face south. Looking at the compass, it would appear the person is facing towards the west.
