Group Reflective Essay
Overall, I am very pleased with how our group communicated with one another throughout the duration of the course. Everyone was ambitious with contributing to the website assuring we had all the bases covered for the final website submission. This was my first experience working together with other people through email/text/phone to communicate back and fourth for the website.
My role in our group was taking the provided information and putting it on the website as well as proof reading the documents before submitting them to the site. I searched for images that really to really portray the topic of Aboriginal Rights. I also tried to place them in a way to draw attention to our website. Our biggest hurtle to get over was communication, specifically via email. Melissa was also unavailable via phone. There was a delay replying to emails. The typical response time from Melissa was about 24 hours. I took the role of initiating emails and providing a summary of what we had submitted and what we still needed to work on for our website. The issue did not need to be resolved, because everything was submitted on time and we worked through it for the duration of the class.
The skills and knowledge, I needed to develop to be most effective in advocacy efforts and group practice was to take the lead when you had questions and be consistent. Also to assure everyone’s questions were answered throughout the communication. It was also beneficial to become an expert on the topic in able to adequately communicate and contribute to your advocacy topic.
I am thankful for this experience and after this course I have a concrete understanding on how to successfully advocate for your topic and work as a group to assure a topic is successfully advocated for. I have gained knowledge to face issues head on and to be detailed and specific in communication to assure things get completed in a timely fashion. Overall the project was a success and I am confident concluding the course and submitting the final
