REQUIRED TEXT: Sparling, Phillip B. and Redican, Kerry J. (2011). i Health an Interactive Framework (11th Edition). New York : McGraw-Hill, Inc.

Purpose of the Course: The purpose of this course is for students to develop knowledge and understanding in health so that they may make healthy lifestyle choices. Students will demonstrate knowledge in current health issues, related research, and applicability of this knowledge in achieving wellness. Methods used to learn content in the health course include lectures, discussions, readings, handouts and power point presentations. Also included are online quizzes, blackboard discussions and assignments. Students will spend two hours in class and two hours on Blackboard per week.

Course Objectives: 1. Students will be able to appraise sources of stress, analyze the negative effects of stress, and apply coping strategies. 1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge in designing a general fitness program inclusive of aerobic and weight training activities for a healthy lifestyle. 1.
