Occasional bumps and bruises are expected to occur on athletes playing sports, but h igh school athletes account for an estimated two million injuries each year, having major effects on high school athletes futures.
Today, many BHHS freshmen athletes are feeling the effects of sports injuries being hit with sports injuries early in their high school sports careers. As a result, many freshmen feel there are positive and negative effects of sports injuries based on how serious the injury is.

Joneson’s injury occurred while she was running down the field and was also a noncontact injury. This injury required surgery weeks later and is participating in physical therapy for five months, three days a week for 3060 minutes. She is anticipating returning to soccer in late April with a full recovery. “I won’t be able to play soccer my freshman year,” Joneson explains. “I don’t think that not playing freshmen year will not have much of an effect on my high school soccer career.” She also believes she will have to work hard to get reconditioned as a result of inactivity from the injury. Joneson knows of others who have not been able to come back from soccer related injuries and that makes her want to work harder. Yet, she is also glad this injury happened in her freshman year, and believes it will be easier to make a comeback from this point.
Joneson would like to further her soccer ability by being a collegiate studentathlete. “It would be great to be a college studentathlete,” Joneson claims. “I believe that my injury will not negatively impact the college recruiting process, because college recruiters typically do not look at ninth graders.”

On 1/24/17 I met Mr. Kraxner at the office of Dr. Morse. Mr. Kraxner has been working very hard in therapy; he continues to follow his home exercise program when not in therapy. His progress has been slow. He sleeps about 2 hours at a time during the night. His pain continues the Norco "make him Loopy" and really do not help with the pain so he is not taking that. He has been taking Motrin but has concerns about his stomach. The tens unit is still used daily and that helps. Dr. Morse was able to raise his arm passively over head. He actively can raise his arm to chest level. Dr. Morse said he expects his recovery will be slower due to such a large full thickness tear and having to use 7-8 anchors. In most high schools, there are problems with attendance from the students. If a player does not come to school, then they may not go to practice or attend the game that…
