If it can happen in America, it can happen anywhere. Now, every public event that draws large numbers of people have security checks. The really large events are monitored by security bureau’s like the FBI. We no longer feel completely safe in public and some people do not want to attend some events due to fear. America became aware that other countries do not like our way of life to the point they would kill us over it. This makes you think twice about traveling overseas. Air travel has definitely changed with all the security procedures. Immigration laws are changing all the time due to the terrorist having come to this country on school and work visa’s. The process for entry into the United States has gotten…
The most practical impact we saw from 9/11 today is the way security and passengers are handled at airports. Today we see many restrictions when it comes to traveling. For instance, liquids and toiletries are required to be a certain size and must be placed in clear, sealed bags. Food and bottled water is not permitted through security. Passengers must put their carry on bags onto a conveyer belt that shows what they are carrying. This process makes sure nothing that is not permitted is carried onto the flight. As for passengers themselves, they are required to walk through a metal detector and once they have done so they are chosen randomly to for more intense screenings. Over the time span of 10 years, airport security has tried many different…
The terrorist attacks against America on September 11th, 2001 have dramatically changed the way in which America safeguards herself.…
Americans to this day will never act or feel the same way as they once used to. What we did then and how we did it, we can no longer do now. It has been over twelve years since the United States went through one of the most horrific, terrifying tragedies in all of United States history. As we all know today, on September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger airliners so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes were intentionally crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. For this reason, there has been an enormous amount of changes in the United States. The three major areas that have changed are the airport security, the government, and the psychological impact.…
From the minute the first airplane hit the World Trade Center on that fateful morning September 11th, 2001 the entire nation was moved. Then when two more planes came crashing into the other tower and the Pentagon, the nation was crushed. It was the most fatal terrorist attack ever committed against the United Stated killing nearly 3,000 people. Thousands of children were left with one parent or even became orphans. September 11th quickly became our biggest national tragedy since the JFK assassination. After the attacks, many changes could be seen in the country beginning with the government. Immediately after the attacks security shot up, which quickly sacrificed some citizen freedom. For example, the USA Patriot Act was passed in 2001 to give law enforcement agencies surveillance powers over U.S citizens. This led to creation of the Information Awareness Office whose goal was to develop technology that could collect and process massive amounts of…
The government has transformed into a police, authoritarian state, and citizens have had all rights revoked. Speech is restricted, thinking is against the law. Today, virtually all non-physical interaction, meaning digital communication in all forms, is monitored by the government. Speech itself, although guaranteed in the US Constitution, can be limited and have extreme effects on a person's life. Edward Snowden worked for the government, and found disturbing evidence of invasive spying on citizens by the NSA. He then exposed this program to the world, making him a fugitive and forcing him to flee to Russia. Freedom of speech is slowly being eroded…
The 9/11 attacks have most certainly changed America in a fundamental way. More specifically the way America sees and addresses its security. Before 9/11 I think most of America seen itself as a place safe from those that don’t share our beliefs. That we could and would be able to guard against any treat that would come along. 9/11 showed us how wrong we were. The changes are in no way are temporary, but have become a permanent fixture on how we handle foreign and domestic threats. Airport Security was increased to an extent that many people avoid airlines now because of the hassle of dealing with security. The Department of Homeland Security was created to stop and avoid future attacks. The question now is has this made us safer? I don’t…
Americans have faced many changes since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The images we witnessed on the news over and over again still haunt us today. The families that received phone calls from loved ones who were going to die are still recovering. Our attitudes and concerns about safety are not as lax as they once were. Lives were lost, the economy took a nose dive, and the way we live has changed forever.…
Airport safety has changed forever and is never going back to what it used to be. Here is an example of how safety has even increased outside of the airport and not only on an aircraft, “These portable sensors could be used outside of the airport itself to identify dangerous individuals or vehicles before they get close enough to do damage” (Koprowski). This is stated by Peter Kant, executive vice president of Rapiscan Systems (Ten Years of Tech made Airports safer). In other words, as years go on more discoveries are made. The sensors that are sometimes used outside of airports could be very helpful in the way that people could be caught before any bad could be done. If it was not for September 11th who knows if airport security would be as secure as it is nowadays. To help support this claim, “Airports are using new technologies, like refined X-ray backscatter equipment, which enables intimate searching of a passenger without the need for them to strip or be stripped by federal agents (Koprowski). Although some people might be frustrated with the fact that with all these new protocols over the past years it takes a very long time to go through security and how people have to arrive around two hours before their flight takes off. To help explain this according to TSA, “TSA screens approximately 1.1 million checked bags for explosives and other…
After 9/11 airport began to have stricter requirements to able to board an airplane. During 9/11 security at the airport wasn’t as heightened as it is now. The Department Of Home land security was created. TSA officials were trained better to do security checks (Valerie Lucus-McEwen, 2011). The attack on 9/11 was a wakeup call for the whole United States not just New York because this disaster could have happened anywhere in the United…
The events that took place on September 11th 2001 showed America that we need to expect the unexpected and prepare for the future. On this day, 19 terrorists from a group called al-Qaeda hijacked 4 commercial passenger planes. Two of them were crashed into the Twin Towers of New York City’s World Trade Center. The third plane was crashed into The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane they say was intended to be crashed into the White House itself, but the plane landed in Pennsylvania instead. Following 9/11, the U.S. government took many steps to try to make the country safer, such as heightened airport security, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Patriot Act.…
On Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 around 8:30am, America was changed forever. The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers were one of the most influential events in recent history here in America. The event of 9/11 changed the way the world thinks and operates many aspects of security especially when it relates to aviation. After the events on 9/11 airport security increased, views on terrorism changed, and the families of the victims were changed forever.…
Arguably the event that transpired on the 9th of September 2001 transformed the lives of Americans completely. The days when Americans flew in planes without any threat of terrorism on US soil are long gone. In fact, terrorism has become a common vocabulary that most third graders are familiar with it. They may not comprehend what the word means, but they are aware of it and understand that it is not something pleasant. Fifteen years after the event of 9/11, Americans are not yet safe, but elaborate border security measures have been put in place to secure the US homeland (U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, n.d).…
One of the reasons why 9/11 was so pertinent and effective is because it made the U.S. no longer feel invulnerable. For this reason the travel security is much more restrictive. Before you used to be able to just walk onto the plane with food and drinks and you didn't have to go through so much security. Also to go along with security is that there is now a lot more rules. Since people now that the U.S. is not invulnerable there have been other attempts by the al-Qaeda to attack us. I believe this has shaped the U.S. greatly.…
Safety and security in air transport around the world became stricter following the 9/11 attacks. There were more regulations around what people could bring in and on planes, and anyone suspected of terrorism or involvement with the al-Qaeda organisation (one of the world’s largest terrorist organisations) or the Taliban could be detained in Guantanamo Bay without being fairly charged or trialled.…
