TASK 1 – Understand difference between personal management and human resource management.

1.1 Distinguish between personal management and human resource management.

Human resource management is the new version of personnel management. There is no any watertight difference between human resource management and personnel management. However, there are some differences in the following matters.

The main difference between personnel management and human resource management is that the former is the traditional approach the latter represents the modern approach toward managing people in an enterprise.

The HRM function at Tesco is simply miraculous. It has considered all those aspects that would keep the employees motivated, as a consequence they would work in the best interest of the organization. The current reward system which offers a flexible working environment, competitive salaries, company share options etc would stimulate the employees to work efficiently and effectively. Moreover, the HRM function at Tesco has set targets which are realistic and has also provided their employees with an interesting work environment.

Difference Between Personnel Management And Human Resource Management

Personnel management is a traditional approach of managing people in the organization. Human resource management is a modern approach of managing people and their strengths in the organization.

Personnel management focuses on personnel administration, employee welfare and labor relation.
Human resource management focuses on acquisition, development, motivation and maintenance of human resources in the organization.

Personnel management assumes people as a input for achieving desired output.
Human resource management assumes people as an important and valuable resource for achieving desired output.
