Importance of Play

Importance of Play I spent hours surfing the internet looking at articles that discuss the importance or lack of play with children. In all the articles I read I found that all research and studies done prove how vital play is for the development of a child. BabyCenter has many interesting articles on this subject so thats why I chose it to write my reflection about. It links play to how children develop certain skills like independence, creativity and problem solving. All these skills parents may not necessarily be thinking about while playing with their toddlers. Which is way nothing should be over looked when it comes to play, even if it’s just a tea party in your living room or nursing a sick teddy bear . Everything is a stepping stone at that age no matter how ordinary it appears to parents. The article states how a simple please and thank you can come out while playing ‘tea party’ and how that is a new skill they can incorporate later in life. Another interesting topic in this article are what types of play are best. Depending on age and personality, it lists different types of way to engage children. Floor play is an important type. It brings the adult down to the child’s level and helps them understand things for the child’s perspective. Adults learn how the child see the world in the way they play. So not only is it good for the child, but it is also important for the adult. It connects everyone together.
