Interpretation Project 2
Step 1 In this my second interpretation project step one, I will illustrate the four steps of the Interpretive Journey for the New Testament letters in Journey into God's Word: Your Guide to Understanding and Applying the Bible (pp.100-102) and apply these steps to Galatians 5:16-18 and "grasp the text in their own." The main verse is Galatians 5:16 which states: "This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." In these three verses Paul exhorted the Galatians to walk in the Spirit. Paul says that anyone who walks in the Spirit "will absolutely not" do the desires of the flesh. Paul contrast the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit.
Step 2 In this the second step I will "measure the width of the river to cross." There are several differences between the biblical audience and us today. Differences between us in culture, time and situations. Fortunately there is not a big river for us to cross with Galatians 5:16-18, it is a stream we can easily hop over.
Step 3 In the third step I will "Cross the Pricipilizing Bridge." In light of how our situation is similar to the biblical audience I will identify the theological principles reflected in the text. The theological principles are walking in the Spirit and not carrying out the desires of the flesh.
Step 4 In step four I will "grasp the text in our own." I will ask myself how individual Christians today should apply these theological principles in their lives. I will show two real-life applications of each principle. The first principle is walking in the Spirit.
Application 1: Not being sexually physical with someone if you are not married.
Application 2: Not being mad at someone and being the first to apologize when yoe were not the first one in the wrong. The second principle is not to carry out the flesh's desires.
Application 1: Not being sexually physical with someone you are not married to so your prayers can

'Measure the width of the river to cross' is step two of Interpretative Journey for New Testament letters. The biblical audience and modern day interpretations of the scriptures in Galatians form the proverbial river that we must measure in order to cross. The biblical audience found themselves in a fight between the flesh and the Spirit. We in modern times also have the same battle to overcome. The river however I think was much higher in biblical times because of the constant strain for acceptance and understanding that they lacked in first-century theology. I think finding a clearer path in the Spirit in earlier times was much easier to find and hold onto since the majority of life was home and church,…

Step number two is called “measuring the width of the river.” In this step, one would begin to look at the differences between the current time period and the time that the passage was written. Here one must discover the differences in the languages, time periods, cultures, and sometimes even differences in covenant with God. In this second step one is to identify the situation that the biblical audience faces in the passage.…

Men of God’s calling have spent years studying scripture and spent thousands of dollars at universities and colleges attempting to learn the truth of God’s word. They study to not only validate their own faith but to have that boldness that the apostles demonstrated as they followed the last command of Jesus, to spread the gospel thought all the world. Their mission is to counsel, to instruct, to teach, to explain and to lay the foundation of belief for the eternal reward of salvation. Their integrity is laid on the line, one slip and all the good they have produced with sincere intentions and devotions could be lost in the twinkle of an eye. What motivates a man to do good and what tempts him to turn from the truths that he teaches and believes in himself? We will examine a few ethical and moral traps that have snared many of God’s servants in today’s society.…

The small story in Matthew 24: 42-44 compares the coming of Christ with a “thief” (Matthew 24:43) breaking into someone’s house at night. This small story tells us that Jesus is going to be coming at an hour that no one on earth will be expecting. The central message of the story is that Jesus wants his children to “keep watch” (Matthew 24:42) and “be ready” (Matthew 24:44) for Jesus when He comes at this unexpected hour.…
