Now switch roles. In responses to your classmates, pretend you are the poster's instructor, boss, or a community resident. Select your role based on the poster's initial scenario and his or her choice from item 3 above. From the perspective of your role, assess the scenario provided, determine if the event or situation violates APUS's Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism policy, and ask one question that extends the conversation. Potential questions could be: What did you hope to gain by x? How would your classmates, colleagues, or the volunteers react if they found out? Think of other questions that fit the scenario.…

The elements that define theft without consent are as followed: that a theft occurred by another person; the defendant received the stolen property; and when the defendant received the property he or she knew it was stolen. Texas criminal code defines receiving stolen property. The definition is as follows. A person commits an offense if he or she unlawfully appropriates property with intent to deprive the owner of property. Appropriation of property is unlawful if it without the owners effective consent, as well as if the property is stolen and the actor appropriates the property knowing it was stolen by another. So in cases of theft, the actus reus is the unauthorized confiscation of someone’s property. The mens rea part is the intent to permanently deprive the…
Today shoplifting is one of the most common forms of theft in the United States. Shoplifting is now the number one cause for smaller stores to fail in today's market. The small stores are also the ones the usually carry the smaller items which are the easiest to receive the "five fingered discount" on. The reason shoplifting has become so big is because the thieves some how justify their actions and they also don't consider themselves thieves. The most common shoplifters are children and the senior citizens. It is the housewives and the college students that some how justify their stealing and don't consider themselves thieves.…
Many U.S. businesses, still struggling to boost revenues, are cutting prices to remain competitive. The Journal reports that with "about half of companies reporting year-end earnings, Thomson Reuters estimates revenue for companies in the S&P 500 stock index rose just 0.9%—capping two years of lackluster revenue growth and tying the third-weakest quarterly sales growth since the fall of 2009." The Journal adds that the "persistent weakness in revenue also prompts companies to cut back costs and plow their spare cash into share buybacks instead of investments like new factories and hiring. Fourth-quarter earnings, as a result, are expected to be up 9.4%."…
I was asked the question, “Gaesha what is one thing that really upsets you?” It did not take me more than two seconds to answer that question. I replied, “You know what really gets my gears grinding, my biggest pet peeve, what upsets me, and takes me to the highest level of frustration are people who are known as robbers, thieves, stealers, or burglars!” I can’t understand how a robber can invade the private homes of another person who has worked hard to earn the things they have and steal from them! I’m wondering where these low life’s consciences are. What happened to the Eighth Commandment: Thou shalt not steal? What mind frame do they have when they are about to steal?…
Thirdly, people should refrain from robbing others, is because what comes with crime or bad behavior, is consequences. Stealing is obviously against the law. If caught doing it, it could cause you to have that on your record and this could hinder you from getting a job, etc. Not to…

Some shoplifters don’t even notice when they will take something they see the opportunity and decide to take it. There even groups that go into a store and decide to work together to shoplift. Professional shoplifters like to steal the most expensive things and then easily resell it to someone else who had no idea that the person shoplifted it. The affects for a shoplifter is that they have to do a lot of community service or worse it just depends on the situation. The personal affects is the disappointment in they’re parents and the lack of trust that they now do not have.…
This could be like a local store charging tax on people and instead of giving the money they collected to the government they pocket it all. Then when they get caught they get into a large issue of where is the money and what is spent on. This could also be when a smoke shop starts selling cigarettes that aren’t legal in California and they don’t have the California sticker on the bottom of them. Property crime is when a criminal action is done upon someone’s belongs. For example, breaking into a house and stealing everything a person has or breaking into a car and taking the car to go to a chop shop.…
Shoplifting is a major problem in today life. The temptation of not paying for something, just hiding it away and saving your own money is a large factor for some people. The culprit just thinks he's getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's actually doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting effects everyone, yourself and the everyone in the local neighborhood.

In this essay I'm going to explain some of the circumstances of stealing from local stores, or any store. After I've been caught stealing I found out how wrong it is and how it is a disadvantage to everyone. The stores are tying to crack down on shoplifters by making the punishments as strict as possible.

Shoplifting effects the community in a big way. The stores get about three cents per every dollar purchased for an item. So if you figure that they don't make a whole lot of money out of profit. Every shoplifter that takes a product also is taking the product, which costs money by the store so that is also a set back and puts them more in dept. Some stores might even closed down because of shoplifters making the store go bankrupt.

The stores usually raise there prices and then causes more shoplifting, but the people that don't shoplift just end up having to pay more for the product or else go somewhere else to shop. If the customer goes to a different store because of the rising prices the store will also lose business therefore could cause them to go out of business if enough customers leave.

From shoplifting I've found out what happens to the stores and the people that keep trying to get five finger discount on products. If you do shoplift you feel immense humiliation and distrust from friends and family, and your own conscious is hurt if it isn't then there is something wrong with your feelings not to feel bad about stealing from stores. Every time you steal from stores they are set back that much money and might even have to fire someone that…
Have you ever stolen something from somebody before? Have you ever thought about stealing from a store? People steal so than they don’t have to pay for it. People may think stealing may make their lives easier. Others steal information from other to get something online. But is it really worth it to steal to eventually get caught and go to jail for?…
When someone sees something of important physical value, like a phone, the impulse to own this item can result in the illegal act of theft. The stealing of this object impacts the integrity of the thief, whether caught or not the illegal act has now made this person a criminal. Greed causes us to overlook all our good conscience and bend the law for our own favor. The consequence of greed is a detrimental impact on our character, in the sense we don’t know how to control our knowledge of what is right and what is wrong.…
