1.0 Introduction
The purpose of this assignment is to discuss about the understanding of leadership and mentoring. Throughout this assignment, you will know the definition, characteristic, theories, benefit and effect of leadership and mentoring.

1.1 Leadership
Leadership since the early days has been of interest of people gathering together in group to achieve goals. Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization and someone who have high influence towards a group of people to achieve goals. According to Kelly-Heidenthal (2004) leadership is the ability to provide direction toward desired future aspirations and aligns the followers toward goals accomplishment. According to Batten (1989) leadership are a purpose of knowing yourself, having a vision that is well communicated, building trust among employees and taking effective measures to realize your own potential leadership. Bill Gates definition of leadership is to be willing to make decision because that is it’s the most important of part of being a leader. According to the author of ‘Trust in Leadership’ he stated that leaders have been argued to play a key role in determining organizational effectiveness across all levels. (Burke, 2000)

1.2 Definition and Models
Leadership models are not something to be tried on like suits, to see which one fits. Rather, they should be adapted to the specific demands of the situation, the specific requirements of the people involved and the particular challenges facing the organization. There are many theories and approaches had been developed by the professionals to further study about leadership.

1.2.1 Trait Theory
According to Gomez (2008) the trait theory was explained that leadership is born with inherited traits such as height, intelligence, fluency and others which particularly suited to leadership.     Unethical leadership behavior involves acts which are illegal, or morally inappropriate to larger society (Jones 1991). There are variety of unethical leader acts such as abusive supervision( Tepper, 2000), supervisor undermining (Duffy et al., 2002), toxic leadership (Frost, 2004) and tyrannical leadership (Ashforth, 1994).
