In order for a church to carry out its mission it needs effective leader/leadership. But what is leader/leadership? In spite all that has been said about leadership there is no universally accepted definition of a leader/leadership. Perhaps the next best definition of Christian leader is taken from The Making of a Leader by Bobby Clinton: “a person with God-given capacity and God-given responsibility who influences a group of followers toward God’s purposes for the group.”(p.127). In my own words this is someone who follows the example of Christ and does so in a way that influences others.…

During plebe year, I had a lot of trouble understanding why West Point was called “the premier leadership institution”. While my experiences consisted only of Cadet Basic Training and the lusterless life of a fourth class cadet, I felt that the academy had done little for my development as a leader. However, after spending a summer at Buckner and a semester as a yearling, I noticed a significant change in my behavior. While I did not immediately understand how the West Point Leader Development System had an influence on me, honest reflection on my time at the academy has led me to a greater understanding of what West Point aims to do. Of the many WPLDS outcomes, I find that the two I have improved in the most are “liv[ing] honorably and build[ing] trust” and “seek[ing] balance, be [eing] resilient, and demonstrate[ing] a strong and winning spirit”.…

Throughout the novel “We were soldiers”, it shows exactly what combat leadership is all about. I believe that there are many NCO’s and Officers but fewer True combat leaders. The effectiveness of leadership throughout the Battle of IA Drang is remarkable and inspirational. Its shows how a strong leader is important when dealing with hard choices, adversity, diversity and being in a position where people’s lives are in stakes of your decisions. My favorite quote from LTC Moore is, “I can 't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, before you and before Almighty God, that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be the last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help me, God.” To me that show that your leader is ready and is willing to go to war no matter what with his soldiers. To me those are words that will make the soldiers have the same attitude going in to battle. There are many forms and ways to be a leader, one of the main leadership definitions that I identified was authentic leadership that demonstrates initiative. You go first, and lead the way. You don’t ask others to do what they are unwilling to do themselves. Instead, they lead by example.…

Leadership is a process of influencing activities of a particular group of people with the aim of attaining certain stipulated goals. In defining leadership there is need to consider a particular group, the common goals and the duties that are allocated to specific members of the group depending on their abilities (Fiedler 1976). Leadership therefore cannot successfully occur unless members of the group are given different considerations in terms of personality, traits and responsibilities. In considering leadership, it is important to look at the leader, the group or organization they are leading, the members as individuals and the situation; these are variables for interaction in the leadership processes, which are paramount for the success of the whole process. A leader is in essence the person who influences a group of people with the aim of attaining specific goals. Therefore, leaders in a group are separated from the rest of the group members by the extent to which they exert influence towards activities in the organization. It is to this effect that this essay will consider leadership using psychodynamic theory in an effort to bring out a marshal plan to improve my motivation and leadership skills.…
