Competency Goal 6
My competency goal is to maintain a commitment to professionalism, I will promote child development, learning and build family and community relationships. I will continue to attend professional development sessions and read articles about early childhood. I am a continuous, collaborative learner who demonstrates knowledge in my field from all type of resources.

I will introduce daily opportunities for the children within the classroom to explore their

surrounding world through play, examination, arts and science activities and much more. The children will be encouraged to explore each center within the classroom. These centers will be set up based upon the team of the week. There will be an art center, a library, a block area, a home living center and a science sensory center within the classroom. At times some of these centers may be changed according to the team plan for the week. A lesson plan will be posted for parents to view each week. At the end of the day or two there will be an event note posted on the door to let each parent view what we did during the day. There will be an incorporated monthly calendar which each parent may take home to give them an idea of the team that we will be doing each week, any important dates that are coming up, and any reminders that may be needed. I will create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions. To also keep children healthy, I will maintain environment that promote wellness and help them to learn the importance of starting each day with a balanced meal.

I chose to become an early childhood teacher because I love, have passion and enjoy working with children. I enjoy

I would share parents on parents night based on the four principles of child development to show how a child grows overtime, developmental needs in an American classroom to show how a child establish and to create patterns by scheduling, children’s physical needs to show how a child can stay healthy and active, how schools use time to show how a typical school runs, grouping students to show how school teachers cooperatively work with their school students into groups and a cultural and linguistic diversity to show different places of the world of where the child is from. Finally, this Yardsticks book by Chip Wood would be absolutely a valuable and worthwhile purchase for their home library because it will make parents to understand and read…

Responsive to participant needs. On their first day in our program, I make every effort to me4et and greet our clients, the parents as well as the children. I ask the parents if they need any special requirements, accommodations, or modifications to better service their children. Before the child enters the classroom, I make sure they know they are included. I post a welcome sign for each new child and their cubby is already labeled so they know where to store their belongings. Once the child has entered the classroom, I take another child and introduce them and then we all take a tour of the classroom. This gives us a time to get to know each other, I can find out their likes and dislikes, observe their interactions with other children, and begin to plan their development.…

Once I started as a teacher assistant at my job, and was able to work with children with special needs, I thought this is what my passion is. So I worked hard as an assistant until I advanced as a lead, and then a teacher with my own classroom. I love my job, and learn a lot on a daily basis. How I ensure that families are kept aware of what’s happening in their child’s daily/ or weekly life in my program is by having room displays such as photos and posters of the children interacting with each other and bulletin boards of their artwork all around my center. I would also post pictures of the children dancing and laughing around my class to show the parents the fun things we do. I would also post pictures of them working to show the children’s parents that my children are getting educated and that my children are learning. I am also able to provide the families with my weekly agenda of what the children and I will be working on. I can also exchange emails with the families to communicate via email, if they have any questions we can also exchange numbers. I can also provide daily reports of the child’s daily progress. I can also include and struggle the child has had during the day.…
