Mission Statements

In today’s society regardless of the profession you are in there is always a “Mission Statement”, is the force of any organization. According to Dean John Champion; are goals and orientation statements of organizations designed to disclose their purposes and responsibilities. Used to vest employees with direction and motivation. A mission statement is: During this paper I will provide three examples of criminal justice missions statements. The mission statement of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA),the “mission statement of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice,” and the “mission statement for the foundation for Criminal Justice National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of Crime.” For the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), their mission “ is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the United States; and to recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing the availability of illicit controlled substances on the domestic and international markets.” In carrying out their mission statement the DEA is responsible for various tasks which include but are not limited to; investigation, preparation, and prosecution of major violators of controlled substance laws operating at interstate and international levels within the local, state, and federal criminals, or drug offenders who may manufacture, distribute, and dispense of legally produced controlled substances. The mission of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is to provide public safety, promote positive change in offender behavior, reintegrate offenders into society, and assist victims.
