Good evening ladies and gentlemen of the jury I have lived in other places and went through the same things as Salem are going through with this witchcraft nonsense. Everything that I’ve heard and seen has definitely been happening here because of this woman Mary Warren. Once I heard about this nonsense I knew Mary Warren had to be prosecuted. Do you guys really think that she is such a great person? I personally don’t think so there is definitely hidden evil behind that supposedly innocent face. Ms. Warren has many flaws behind her that proves that she is behind all this mysterious witch craft that has occurred recently in Salem; and your reason has always been right in front of you.…
Worked mostly with children and discovered how important holding is to a childs health. She also worked with silver nitrate eye drops and perfected the application process in infants. Baker was the first woman to be assistant surgeon general in the U.S.…
The address to the women’s Rights Convention by Sojourner Truth occurred in 1851 in Akron, Ohio. The article recounts the plight of women in the 19th century and calls for actions to address the issue of race and inequality of women. According to Phillips-Anderson (2013), women of color were discriminated due to their origins and gender. In her speech, Truth calls for Black men and women to elicit fear in the conscience of men who believe in the status quo.…
The introduction is the first impression about the speaker and about the message. These first few moments builds your audience interest, orients the listeners to the speech, and establishes your credibility as a speaker. “ I stand before you today as a…
In the “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” by Martin Luther King Jr. and the “Speech at the March on by Josephine Baker each article passionately argues about the disadvantages of the black community during the 1960s and about equality and the power of education. In order to achieve true freedom one must make changes through peaceful protest.…
On last Thursday, I went to the Visual Performance Arts Center (VPAC) for the first time since 1 and half year I’m here in De Anza, and listened to a special guest’s speech named Angela Davis. At the first time I heard we’re going to hear her speech, I was excited because I know she was one of the most influential activist, especially here in California.…
I enjoy listening to the speech of Audra Simpson because even is she is not an Indian woman herself; she feels concerned about the issues of Aboriginal people in Canada. She also mentioned the same problem about Indigenous people and the need to stop the oppression. I think to improve the conditions of Indian people; we should all feel concerned about those issues so that we can stop the marginalization and the murder of the Indigenous people especially woman. We see in advertise about immigration in Canada that Canada is a free trade, multiculturalism country. However, many native people are still suffering from poverty. How can we ask foreign people to come into our country when we are not able to treat well people already there? Many indigenous…
Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 and she was one of the many women in the nineteenth century to fight for women’s rights. She would travel all over the nation and create petitions for the right for women to vote and also slavery. She was an abolitionist, an educational reformer, a labor activist, and of course a women’s right campaigner. As brave as she was, she voted illegally in the presidential election of 1872 in Rochester, New York and arrested. They had fined her 100 dollars but did not imprison her, which she refused to pay. The next year, Susan presented a speech explaining and demanding that women had the right vote just as much as men did. She states, “It was…
After winning, she made many appearances during the year she was named Miss America. During this time, she began speaking to the crowds who came to see her. This opened the door to her career as a motivational speaker. Marilyn became a motivational speaker in her early 20’s. She craved the fears and anxiety of the challenging career she was seeking after. It was like an adrenaline rush for her. She had experienced those feelings so much in her life, that she wanted to feel them without even realizing that she was doing that to herself. She became very successful in her speaking and encouraged a lot of people to pursue a career and spoke about how to be…
Abbey’s speech was performed very well using good projection, eye contact and articulation. The use of pauses between questions and strong statements leave us to wonder and reflect on what she has just said, which helped her speech create more of a connection to the audience. There was also a great use of rhetorical devices, which I explain later in this reflection. Although the speech was performed excellently, she should keep in mind for next time to be a little bit more loader, show more of a connected emotion to her speech and more body language.…
* Underline the statement that shows why Josephine Baker is qualified to give a speech.…
My interpretation of the speeches is shaped by the composer's integration of rhetorical techniques to engage and reflect their personal opinions. The notions of freedom, equality and women's rights explored within these speeches convey both composers’ perspectives influenced by their social values and beliefs. The speeches by Aung San Suu Kyi "Keynote Address at the Beijing World conference on women" and Margaret Atwood "Spotty handed Villainesses," both address the ongoing issues present within a male dominated society and desires to empower women. In the "Keynote Address at the Beijing World conference on women", the composer empowers women by influencing an audience's interpretations on the rights and equality for women. The use of simile…
Early in the 1900s, African Americans were not acknowledge by their influences and creations. Majority of the Caucasians tend to eliminate minority because they feel like they are not as important in the world. If African American people wanted to dance, sing, and play sports, they are usually not credited because their skin tone is different. One of the bravest African American woman a person knows is Josephine Baker. Josephine Baker was born on June 3rd, 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri. Josephine struggles during her childhood to support her family by working many jobs. Josephine was not just glamorous, talented, and cool; she was important in the society. She is an African American singer, dancer, and actress who rose to fame in France where she named herself "Black Pearl" or "Black Venus". Josephine accomplishments was to influence her people that the color of skin should not matter in who they really are. The implementation of her anecdotes really hit home with the audience’s feelings, you could visually see how they enjoyed hearing her speak. Her ability to keep the audience engaged and waiting for her next line to come out was evidence of how connected she was with them. It is rare to see someone be able to hit each of the emotional components of a speech.…
