Multiculturalism And Canada's Identity
To What extent is Multiculturalism an important part of ‘your’ and ‘Canada’s’ identity as part of our legacy?
Multiculturalism is the sense of an equal celebration of racial, religious and cultural backgrounds. In 1971, Canada was the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy. Canada affirmed the value and dignity of all Canadian citizens, regardless of their racial or ethnic origins, their language, or their religious affiliation. The idea behind the act was to ensure that all citizens could keep their identities, can take pride in their ancestry and have a great sense of belonging. There is no pressure to assimilate and give up their culture, which makes people feel more at ease in choosing Canadian citizenship.
In Canada, there are many examples of multiculturalism as provided ahead. People with different traditions, respect each other’s tradition and different languages are spoken in the country. People with different experience have different point of views which makes Canada …show more content…
The term aboriginal” contains various groups of people, the Métis, Inuit and Mi'kmaq. Most of the aboriginal cultures have reached to the extinct through the blending of cultures in the country. To prevent this, Canadian government is offering various resources including money, accommodation and food to an aboriginal people to continue their own tradition and practice. In addition to these, the government is running aboriginal schools in their area, which helps to retain their culture.
I came to Canada as a landed immigrant and now I am a Canadian citizen. I respect tradition, culture and religion of others, similarly other people respect mine. I am really enjoying multiculturalism in this country and never feel that I am coming from outside.
