Myspace and Facebook
Social sites such as MySpace and Facebook are becoming increasingly more popular as today 's younger generations are trying to stay in touch with friends and acquaintances from all over the world. Travel is becoming more prevalent as we seek to explore new and exciting cultures beyond the borders of our home towns, and what these social sites do is help us stay in contact with hundreds of friends in hundreds on cities all over the world. Sean Young told me that, "Facebook and MySpace are the only way I am able to keep in touch with my friends and family while I am in Australia for the University of Florida 's study abroad program." There could be a best friend vacationing in Sydney, Australia or a high school team mate that is playing college basketball two thousand miles away or it could be a friend from your Human Resource Management class, whatever the case, these sites enable the users to communicate and keep in touch with friends in a very fun and easy way.
MySpace and Facebook are great ways to reconnect with lost friends from middle school or friends that you met on a summer vacation. These sites are geared to allow the individual 's personality to come out on the page that they are creating. On each individual 's page, there is a multitude of information that can be learned about the person, such as what music they listen to, whether they enjoy athletics, or even what political party they are affiliated with. You can find email addresses of acquaintances, phone numbers for lost friends, or even mailing addresses for business partners, the options for the different pages are endless. "Facebook is a social utility that connects you with the people around you, and it is made up of many networks, each based around a company, region, high school or college" (Facebook). This makes MySpace and Facebook ideal for learning about people 's interests, and finding out what is important to the individual. The search feature enables the user to find friends

“Today, with recent advances in Technology, people can maintain their social networks electronically; they don’t need face-to-face contacts (Schaefer, 2012,119).” For myself personally, social networking has been an important part of my life for this past year. My Husband is in the United States Coast Guard, so his job requires us to relocate to different stations mainly across the United States. Relocating is always a big adjustment, because not only are you in a new environment that you know almost nothing about, but you also have to leave your family and friends behind. “Whether through text-messaging, handheld devices, or social networking sites like Facebook, a significant amount of networking occurs online (Schaefer, 2012,119).” Without Social Networking sites like Facebook, it would make the relocating even harder, because having Facebook we are able to keep up with the lives of our family and friends-and vice versa-even though we are hundreds of miles away and rarely get to see them.…

Facebook has grown to be the largest online community in the world. There are over six hundred million users worldwide and that total is increasing daily. In a country like Canada, or the U.S., almost everyone that uses the internet has a Facebook page. So if 99% of a person’s close friends, graduating class, family, past teammates, etc. are on Facebook, it is very easy and convenient to stay in touch with them. Without social networking, people would lose touch with just about everyone they’ve ever known except for a small group of close friends, family and other people that you would meet through work and other activities. The use of Facebook has helped people to stay in close contact with each other, it doesn’t matter if a person is on a different continent, they can still socialize with everyone who is considered a “friend” on the website. Say somebody is having a birthday party and they are too lazy to phone people, or they just don’t have everyone’s phone number, an event can be made. With the event, invitations can be sent out to whoever is desired, a…
