Nature vs. Nurture is the controversial debate among Social Scientists about which one has a greater influence over the development of a human. Nature is the influence of inherited biological characteristics on human behavior as well as the influence of our genes. Our genes design an orderly sequence of biological growth processes called maturation. At one time, it was believed that people behaved in certain ways because they inherited behaviors from their parents. Nurture on the other hand is the process of training and influencing a child through learning. It is the influence of our environment and experiences and how they shape us. “Nell” is a story which clearly supports the nurture argument. Nell shows several examples of how her behavior has been influenced by her environment and experiences.…

Let’s talk about the whole controversy between Nature vs. Nurture. Nature is based on DNA. Many people believe that it is DNA that decides on how humans will behave, what occupations they will have, and what their personalities will be like. Others, on the other hand, believe that it is the environment, or nurture, that decides on occupation, behavior, and personality. Although nature does decide on what color hair you have, what eye color you have, and what your height is, nurture has the greatest impact on humans and influences people the most to different kinds of activities, meet different people, and the difference between what is right and wrong.…

It is appropriate to ask the question, are we really born that way? Are we born with the intimacy for art and have the rhythm and skill of dance? Are these characteristics enforced by society? The battle of Nature vs. Nurture has not reached the eight round; both contenders seem to have an equal chance in the battle. It is evident that DNA plays an important role in who we are; however, it is fair to say our life experiences determines how we act in a situation. Are we predetermined to act in ways based on our genetic makeup or does our environment determine who we are solely.…

If a man abuses his wife, is it because he was born with violent tendencies or because of something he learned through his parents by observation? “Researchers are making strides in understanding how genes work with the environment to shape behavior, adding a new twist to the age-old debate over whether nature or nurture is mostly responsible for how people develop.” (Nature vs Nurture: New Science Stirs Debate, Jonathan D. Rockoff) Studies have shown that both nature and nurture influence our upbringing, but which one truly influences us the most? Nature and Nurture makes us who we are today and it will determine what children and later generations will become tomorrow and in the future. Therefore, our upbringing is influenced by nurture…
