It was just a boring day in my hometown, a traditional, weak entrance a lot of narrative stories use to try to get the attention of the readers. This story, however, isn’t one of those traditional stories; this one involves a day that had been exciting up to that point already. The memory that resonates daily throughout my mind would have to be the time when I went to Six Flags for the first time in my life. Before I jump into my story, I should tell you my friends mess with each other a lot, almost to the point where we get into fights with each other.…

The voices of the glistening blue sea will obliterate your stressful mind. When I felt like I was going through a midlife crisis, I grabbed my flip flops, swim trunks, tank top, sunscreen, and lounge chair; while heading towards the Pensacola Beach. A person will be amazed by what they see, hear, feel, smell, and taste at the beach. Although, tourist attractions in Pensacola are marvelous, they’re well-known for having refreshing seafood.…
There’s no other place in the world where I feel the most at home than being at Long Beach Island. There you can smell the fresh, salty air of the ocean as the warm breeze brushes across your face. It is a place where the sand, sometimes chilled by the water or boiling hot up in the sand dunes, fiddles its way through your toes one by one sending chills down your spine with every step. Off in the distance you can hear the chiming of bells as the ice cream men call children of all ages to cool themselves off with a frozen treat. This is the place that all summer long, I am lucky to call home.…
Although living in Florida all my life and never witnessing snow before, I traveled to many other states and countries, experiencing their environment and cultures. Yet, I traveled to all those places during the summer, which limited me to only understanding temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.…
The day had come, as usual, I woke up in the morning and it seems nothing different. It’s around 8 o'clock. I found my cell phone; however, the time was show 23:00 pm. Due to the different time, I realized, here is Arizona, certainly, I with my friends arrived last night. Since that time, I was worried and felt excited. Everything for us are unfamiliar, we should to fit into this new circumstance.…
I was about four years old when everything went to chaos and destruction. But what three year old would feel frightened or afraid of ever breath, not knowing if it was their last. As a child, I was ignorant and naive to what was happening around me in the world. I didn’t know that the city surrounding me, would soon be drowned and submerged in the legendary Hurricane Katrina.Though I was only four and couldn't recall many details of the catastrophic event, my mother remembered everything. We had heard two weeks prior ahead of time what was to come, however my mother having always been a strong-willed woman was determined not to leave despite the attempts my grandparents and father made for her to evacuate New Orleans with me and leave.Yet,…
I am a true Floridian born and raised for the first fourteen years of my life in Homestead, Florida. My childhood growing up was difficult due to my mother’s breast cancer diagnosis, which profoundly affected my life. Being an only child and the thought of possibly losing my mother to cancer was devastating, especially since my father was absent the majority of my life. During my middle school years, I struggled so my mother decided to homeschool me. In 2011, my family relocated to Lakeland, Florida and I entered high school at Victory Christian Academy developing new friendships along with fond memories. Following graduation in 2015, the next year of my life was spent contemplating decisions on whether to register for college or obtain…
It was mid June I remember and out here in Las Vegas that meant intense heat. Here we were two 15 year olds out on the streets with a baby on the way. Trying to keep cool was harder than I thought. We both were hungry, tired, and scared. I never imagined my self in that situation at such a young age. We walked and walked all over looking for somewhere to sleep. When we finally found somewhere to sleep outside of a church, my whole life flashed by as I layed there.…
I flew back to New Orleans and it was just the way I remembered it. The temperature was 98 degrees and the humidity was so high that reapplying deodorant is necessary down here. The French/Spanish architecture gives it a romantic and mysterious appeal. The air was not as fresh as I had wished it was but at least I could still breathe. The air smelled of urine that had been there for years. The streets looked as if a tornado had swept litter back and forth through the town. Residents, not only tourists, walked past it as if trash belonged on the ground.…
When I walked in the doors of our house, I looked to the left where our couch was and saw my parents sitting facing towards me with nervous faces. I set my bag on the ground next to the door, and I set my shoes next to my bag. I slowly turned around and walked towards the couch, hesitant to take a step forward. Part of me considered bolting--running for the door. Their faces were plastered with anxiety, and I tried to think of what I had done. Nothing clear came to mind. Once I finally sat down, I looked at my parents and said, “What's wrong?”…
We started our tetris trip to Florida in a suburban for 12 hours scrunch up in a ball trying to sleep the whole way down but you know how that goes you never get to sleep the whole way down. I usually play my phone games or play music,if I have internet. We finally get out of Kentucky and in Tennessee to stop to get some gas and use the bathroom, but if you're ever on a trip and you go in to use the bathroom and you see all those snacks so you want to buy one because you're hungry. We are now in Alabama which is the longest state we go through. Were about an hour away from the condo and we stopped to get gas and a snack at thorntons. We made it we yelled rolled down the window and jammed yelawolf as we went over the bridge.…
Going into my senior year I still had the idea of, I can make it into a Florida school, I wanted to go to a Florida school to play baseball. So my senior year starting the baseball season with a new coach, I made my mind up, I’m going to work hard to stay in Florida and change my coaches mind. Through my senior year I was by far the best pitcher my ERA was under 1, I had 27 pick- offs in just one year. Also this year I was interviewed for being the hot shot of the week, an article in the newspaper. I was nominated for picking off 7 base runners in one game. I learned my pick off move from my coach in middle school before I knew my summer league coach. So I was still working with my summer league coach every once in a while at this point, but…
On the second day of school during my sophomore year, I realized how much Wahlert meant to me. It had become my home, the place where I felt like I belonged; school almost even seemed like a break from summer. Over the summer, I had become an empty shell and spent my time at the computer wasting the time away; the only interactions I had were with my family, and on rare occasion with my best friends, when we had sleepovers. To see the people I had missed over the summer was great. All of these things felt so true in that moment.…
