Pet Adoption (Persuasive Essay)
Best Reasons for Adopting a Pet

Having a dog is a wonderful idea, they bring companionship, personality and humor to households across the world. Dogs make good companions because of the friendship, unconditional love, loyalty and protection they give. I have decided to adopt a dog from one of my local rescue centers because there are so many unwanted dogs that deserve a loving home.

Companionship is the number one reason I chose to adopt a dog. For instance, when you wake up in the morning they don't care if you have morning breath and no make-up, they will be there to greet you good morning. Also, you know when you come home everyday your dog will always be happy to see you. After a long stressful day they will meet you at the door tail wagging ready to give you hugs and kisses because you're home. It makes all your stress and worries go right out the door. Whether you need someone to cuddle with in bed or company on the couch watching a movie, your dog will always be there for you. The loyalty of dogs is quite amazing and they always want to be by you side. In fact, just walking from room to room in your home you'll be followed. Dogs will never be judgmental, they don't care about the kind of house you live in, the car you drive or what name brand clothes you wear, they will love you for you. You might be feeling emotional, angry, or even talking out loud to yourself about your horrible day, your dog will be there listening and wagging its tail. If you are late feeding them they won't complain. If you raise your voice because they did something wrong they will always forgive you. There are many other benefits to owning a dog but surely your dog will become your sidekick. Many owners make their dogs a significant part of their family.

The second reason I chose to adopt a dog was for security. Dogs are excellent protectors and very territorial. They will defend both their homes and their owners/family. Dogs are known to bite. So when it comes to protecting their home, they will go to great lengths, even giving their life. There are many instances of dogs rushing to defend their owners against attackers. Dogs bark to alert, letting you know something is wrong and for you to go investigate. They are able to hear such things as footsteps of a burglar out side the house or a car pulling up your driveway. Often a dog will smell or hear someone near your home and begin to bark. This is especially important when you are away at work or shopping, if someone comes in you dog will definitely bite them. If you are asleep, they might bark at the slightest noise that they hear and wait close by the door to make sure nobody enters that is not supposed to. Do some research on how many dogs have saved their family from burglars, fires or carbon monoxide poisoning, the numbers are astounding. The next time you are out on a walk with family or friends watch the reaction of dogs. When another animal or person are getting a little to close they will get that alert look, eyes wide open, ears at attention, watching their surroundings. When they feel a possible threat, they get that vicious look, fangs all out, lips curled and making brutish noises through their nose, making sure that animal or person know that they mean business. Dogs are excellent protectors, even the little ones.

The final reason I chose to adopt a dog from a rescue center is because there are so many unwanted dogs that deserve a life outside of a cage. I would like for anyone considering to adopt a dog to visit with your local rescue center before visiting a pet store. There are two reasons I think you should do this...1)you will have saved a life. 2) you will have a healthy pet. Animal rescue centers are full of healthy pets who are just waiting for someone to take them home. I know that some people get a negative feeling when they hear the word “shelter” or “rescued” and have preconceived notions that pets from rescue centers or shelters aren't very healthy or are damaged. But the fact is most rescue centers examine and vaccinate the animals as soon as they arrive. Also, the employees have a good grasp on how the dogs behave and they can help you find the dog that fits your lifestyle and personality. This is a great way to ensure that you don't have to bring your dog back just because he wasn't what you expected. It is also very important when choosing your dog whether you want a puppy or an adult dog, as puppies require more training and most adult dogs have already been trained. Although dogs require a bit of care, they are very versatile animals who can fill many necessary roles. Also, having a dog in your life awards you with numerous benefits. Dogs provide their owners with companionship and relief from loneliness, complete unconditional love, built in security, and pleasure that you're caring for a living creature.

It is impossible to imagine what these dogs are going through while they are stuck in these puppy mills their whole life. Is it possible that these people could do this to innocent dogs it makes no sense. When puppies are bought from pet stores they are coming from a puppy mill most likely. By buying puppy farm puppies, that means supporting puppy mills.…

According to Gail C. Golab “Unfortunately, a few dogs do not live up to their image as mankind’s best friend, and an estimated 4.5 million people are bitten each year, although the actual number is unknown .” (paragraph 2). Thus saying that humans getting bit by a dog is quite common. As a result of these statistics, people believe dogs should be executed. Though it is a valid point what was the reason for those dog bites. Petfinder tells us a reason why dogs may bite “Like people, dogs are naturally fearful of unfamiliar and potentially threatening situations.” (paragraph 6). So dogs may feel threatened as you can too but they defend themselves by biting, is it their fault? The article “Why Dogs Bite”…

In search of something to fill an empty house hold, the Adams looked through pet stores, shelters, and rescue groups to find a furry friend. They had though they had seen all of their possibilities until they arrived at the Lawrence Humane Society. The Adams saw a young puppy who was so excited to see a family that she peed all over the floor. This puppy, Lady, went home with the Adams the following week and this is where she lives now. Breeding dogs, while prestigious, adds to the already bloated population of this species in The United States. Adoption takes animals, more specifically, dogs, who would normally be either kept in a shelter, or euthanized and provides a loving home for them. Therefore, breeding should be minimized and adoption should be maximized; both for the overall health and safety of the animals, but also to contain the population. Hello, I am Tara Turner and today I am going to talk to you about adopting animals from shelters. This includes the pets in shelters, breeding,…

Many reasons come to mind when talking about adoption. The possibility that couples, single heterosexual, or gay and lesbian couples could not conceive, because of issues with infertility, or having a miscarriage. Having to adopt could be the means of completing a family one waited so long have. Some might want to adopt to help those children who live in countries that are less fortunate and need homes and families themselves. Many singles and celebrities have done a good cause when adopting children from other countries. They also include pet store chains, zoos, and aquariums. These records describe in detail the quality of animal care in facilities structured by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and Horse Protection Act (HPA).
