Context: For my project my will observe my friends child Leah, Leah is three years old and four months. I went to her home to observe her. Leah lives at home with her mom, dad and two older sisters. Her sisters are nine and six years old. When I arrived at the house Leah was sitting on the couch watching Wonder Pets, her favorite show. Only Leah and her mom were home at this time, her sisters were still in school and the dad was at work. I have been to the house many times before and Leah is very comfortable around me. My friend told me that she told Leah that Alexis’s homework is to come and play with her. Leah knows what homework is because of her older sisters. Leah also just started pre-school, she goes twice a week for a few hours in the morning. Her mom told me that she loves school and didn’t even cry the first day. She has already made some friends and enjoys playing with her classmates.

Actual Observation: While watching Wonder Pets Leah was smiling and pointing to the television and repeating certain sentences. She looked at me a few times and waited for me to acknowledge what she was pointing at or said. It was a Halloween episode of Wonder Pets and Ducky was dressed as a Bumble Bee. Leah pointed to the TV and said “Ducky is a Bumble Bee”, “I be a Bumble Bee for Oloween”. I asked if she had her costume and she quickly jumped off the couch and ran to the target bag on the floor and whipped out the costume with a huge smile on her face. She brought the costume over to me and showed me the wings and zipper. I asked her to put the costume back now because we don’t want it to get ruined before Halloween. On her way back to the couch she picks up the iPod touch and sits back on the couch. It amazes me how quickly she opens the iPod and

    Sky Barragan, daughter of a good friend of mine is the child I observed for this written evaluation. Sky is four years old with a birthday quickly approaching this upcoming July.     The observed child is given a pseudonym in order to remain anonymous. She will be addressed as Lizzy in this paper. Lizzy is a 9 years old child who is part of a typical, traditional middle-class family I visited her while she was conversing with her best friend. She has no prior knowledge of me. Some degree of deception is involved in this observation as I lied about what I will observe; I said I will observe her house, not her actions.
