Abstract: World is driven by projects. Every change that happens, is an outcome of a project. Projects are cause for change since ancient times. Be it building Great wall of China of Marvelous Taj Mahal, Building of and fort or palace or any Stadium. We see projects all around us as a change initiator. There was a time when projects like building Taj Mahal took twenty two years to complete, or The Great wall of China took more than fourteen years. Those were the projects influenced by the king to show love for his wife or by and emperor to save his country. Although they had a time limit for their completion but as they were being done for the first time and need extremely good quality of materials. Engineering and resources for their long life, they were allowed to take so long time. Considering today’s life changing projects may include making satellites, dams, bridges like Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai or many other such projects which influences human life, these projects have a bigger impact on mass population, linking them with benefits of financial or non-financial organizations. This linkage with the general public and need of staying in the market arises need for completing them in even lesser time. New technological interferences and competition among private players in the business have further increased stakeholders expectations in terms of money and time. Planning and Scheduling plays an important role for achieving these endeavors. This paper illustrates the need of planning and scheduling in today’s project driven world and importance of system’s approach in planning processes required to achieve time, cost and quality targets of any project.
