The death penalty has always been a controversial topic in the United States. It is outlawed in 16 states, but it should be abolished in all fifty states. The act of the death penalty is irrational, costly, inhumane, and religiously immoral. Taking an individual’s life, because he/she murdered someone is senseless and is not a good representation of the United States.…

The eighth amendment is designed to protect us from cruel and unusual punishment. Conservation of the United States Constitution, and all moral ideologies have been set aside. An old form of barbaric punishment and the saying "eye for an eye" is still being widely accepted by Americans today. The old form of barbaric punishment is capital punishment. No matter how "humane" the death penalty has become, it is still the killing of another human being. When people stand outside prisons and cheer that an individual was murdered, there is a problem. When people justify the killing of another person, there is a problem. Capital Punishment is irrefutably murder, and murder is never justified.…

The death penalty is a very controversial topic that some may oppose while others assent. I have read two interesting essays about the death penalty. One is entitled “The Penalty of Death” by H.L Mencken and the other “Execution” by Anna Quindlen. Both authors presented their arguments and used great points to support their opinions. H.L Mencken is for the death penalty while Anna Quindlen is against it. After reading these two authors work I was able to form my own opinion on this punishment. I condone the death penalty despite how cruel it may be.…

Mistakes will be made in any system which relies upon human testimony for proof. We should be vigilant to uncover and avoid such mistakes. Our system of justice rightfully demands a higher standard for death penalty cases. However, the risk of making a mistake with the extraordinary due process applied in death penalty cases is very small, and there is no credible evidence to show that any innocent persons have been executed at least since the death penalty was reactivated in 1976... The inevitability of a mistake should not serve as grounds to eliminate the death penalty any more than the risk of having a fatal wreck should make automobiles illegal..."…

Death penalty is the punish meant of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime and there are twenty-two countries in the world that still impose the death penalty for capital crimes, the United states is one of them. The death penalty is an extremely controversial topic in America, and people usually shy away from it, but speaking about controversial topics can help us come close to actually find solutions. This exercise was conducted in my survey of law class in which, we had gone over several homicide cases in which the criminal received the death penalty. In the end of the lesson, our teacher asked a simple question “raise your hand if you believe in the death penalty”. I was appalled to see that more than half believed it was worth it. In my mind it was clear that even though that person could have murdered another human being, we have no jurisdiction to kill them, and we would be no better as civilized being if we killed him.…

A sixteen- year-old is prosecuted in adult court and is given the life sentence without any chance at parole. He doesn’t understand what is happening. His brain isn’t developed like any adults, nor does her comprehend the court surroundings. He is practically a victim to the justice system as he is being treated the same as a thirty-year-old criminal. Any offender under the age of twenty-one should be separated from adults in the justice system.…

The death penalty is something that has many countries in the world divided. In my opinion, I believe that the death penalty should be legal throughout the country. There are many reasons as to why the death penalty should be legalized in the country including retribution, deterrence, and morality. Also, because opposing arguments do not hold up, I will discredit the ideas that the death penalty is not constitutional, irreversible mistakes are made, and that race and income will face disproportionality.…

In conclusion, violent crimes and murder are inexusable and people who commit these crimes should be adequately punished and removed from society, but the death penalty has too many flaws such as being morally wrong, being carried out inhumanely, the execution of innocent people and the huge financial cost to our society. With all of these reasons, I do not agree with the death…

Some people are against the killing of others for any reasons. Other people feel that certain crimes should be punished by death. The death penalty is a very controversial topic in the United States today and has been for a number of years, because people's life is at risk. The reviewing the numbers of facts prove that the death penalty should not be enforced. I think death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights. It violates the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the ultimate cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment. It should be abolished in this country it's racial discrimination, the financial cost and barbarity.…

Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O 'Connor said in a speech in 2001 to a group of women lawyers in Minnesota "the system may well be allowing some innocent defendants to be executed” (“Innocence”). It has been said that if capital punishment disappears in the United States it won’t be because voters and politicians no longer want to execute the guilty (Douthat 7). It will be because they 're afraid of executing the innocent (Douthat 7). "A government that cannot guarantee the absolute accuracy of its proceedings should not take to itself the power of taking a human life," said Senator Martin Looney, referring to the Tillman case (Williams 55-56). While interviewing certain people about this issue there was a statement made by a person that really caught my attention she said “...The death penalty should not be a closure to a family because another person is being killed, when God should be the one making that decision. Remember, two wrongs don’t make a…

The death penalty was used as the ultimate punishment in the American courts, but is it necessary now? The death sentence is used when the offender killed another person with undisputed evidence. The death penalty was used more often during the early years of the United States and is even more accurate now. Even with all the modern technology we have today the death penalty is still hindered by a few factors. Death on humans is immsensely inhumane, even animals are killed at ease with no pain. The death penalty should be used less because of the murder rates are slowly dropping, Prejudice against the defendants, and the costs of the death sentence.…

The sentence of capital punishment is an expensive barbaric alternative for punishing a criminal. Where does the hostility and ignorance stop once it begins? Murder is unaccepted by society, yet people seem to pacify themselves by killing criminals. Is that not considered to be murder? Sentencing a criminal to death does not solve the questions and problems that are left behind. Parents will still cry for a child that is never coming home. Mourning families will still carry a never-ending heartache, and the criminal no longer has to pay for the consequences of their actions. The only people left to pay are taxpayers. According to The International Debate Education Association (IDEA), “Capital punishment costs more than life without parole.” Studies in the US show that capital cases, from arrest to execution, cost between one million and seven million dollars because of a never-ending succession of appeals. A case resulting in imprisonment costs around $500,000 (IDEA).…

Even though I think the death penalty should not be legal there is reason why it should. First, some think murders deserve to be executed. Many people believe the idea of an eye for an eye, so murder victim’s families want to see the murderer be killed at the hands of the government. Some people can’t stand to see people like that still living on the earth. Second, prisoner parole or escapes can give criminals another chance to kill. If…

Although 60 percent of Americans say they still support the death penalty according to the Gallup Poll, it has dropped from 80 percent in 1994. Six states have also done away with the death penalty and in other states, governors have put a temporary ban on capital punishment. The article points out that 700 people, have been put to death in California before 1976, however the state has 741 currently on death row and has only executed 13 people since 1976. The death penalty has even caught President Obama’s attention and has requested a review of capital punishment in 2014, due to the botched execution of Clayton Lockett. When Lockett was given the needle, he was supposed to be sedated and then his breathing would eventually stop. The medication did not work and instead the prisoner felt that his entire body was burning until a vein ruptured and he died of a massive heart attack. Lockett suffered a horrible death for 40 minutes, before it was over and made many question if it was worth it.…
