The focus on this observation was language and literacy. In the preschool classroom the connection I want to make in there with language and literacy would be when the teacher was reading the class on a book about Tinkerbell and Peter Pan. I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Child Q is a five and half year old boy, who attends Paley Early Learning Center Monday through Friday in room 3. He is tall, with dark brown hair. He is smart, friendly, and a loving child. He loves helping his teachers set up and clean the tables for breakfast and lunch. Every Monday, when I would come into the classroom, he would say “ Good, Morning Miss Julie”, and he would give me a hug. He’s favorite thing to talk about is dinosaurs; he could talk about dinosaurs for hours. He knew all the different kinds of dinosaurs and all the interesting facts about dinosaurs. Child Q, favorite dinosaur is a T-Rex. He told me that dinosaurs are awesome and he wishes dinosaurs were still alive. Tommy is sitting on the floor with his toys around him. His teacher sits on the floor next to him and he begins to hand his teacher a series of toys. He is interested in the reaction of his teacher as he hands her his blocks, one by one. Tommy leans forward, grabs a block and hands it to his teacher. He watches her face and sort of drops his mouth open as he waits for her reaction. She then tells him the letter and color on the block. He nods his head forward and then reaches for another block and proceeds to pick up another block. After picking up 5 blocks and handing them to his teacher he then crawls across the floor to a toy car and pushes it for a moment. He looks up at his teacher to see what she is doing and pushes the car toward her. He smiles at her and she smiles back and says “Is that your car?” he smiles again and nods his head forward. Tommy is very interested in his teacher’s reaction to him. She continues to watch him even when he is interested in a toy or moving away from her. He does check to see if she is pay attention to him as he plays. His teacher starts picking up toys and organizing the room and he periodically goes over to her and becomes interested in what she is doing. Tommy seems very dependent on his teachers mood. According to biosocial development most children, by 24 months, weigh almost 30 pounds and are between 32 and 36 inches tall. I set up an appointment with the Kids Club daycare at 9:45 am on November 4th to observe for an hour of toddler classroom who were between three and four years old. The principle gave me a warm greeting and took me to the class and introduced me to the teachers and the children. Everyone there made me feel welcomed. I chose a place where I can sit, observe and write my note as well as to be away from children's sight. In the classroom there were five boys, two girls, and two teachers Ms. Nadia and Ms. Emma. The classroom itself was large and spacious. The classroom is very appropriate for children this age and it has many interesting areas such as a blocks and art area, and children taped some of their previous work in the art area. While observing the lab preschool her on campus at Central Michigan University I learned a lot. I saw a variety of things from the teachers and staff being concentrated on the children, explaining directions multiple times, to having an organized agenda planned out ahead. I observed from 12-12:35 which was in the middle of lunch so I saw the kids eat lunch, play with toys and climb on the rock wall, and the beginning of small group activities. This morning, some children played in the kitchen area, where four boys dressed up as construction workers or fighter fighters, while pretending to have breakfast. Obiel Macedo, a one year and seven month old infant accomplished many tasks on the developmental checklist. I went to his house, his mother and baby sister were present while I was with him. As we sat down on the floor I handed the infant a small container filled with different size blocks. He immediately grabbed the container, poured out the blocks and began to build a tower quickly. Once he was done creating the tower of blocks, a few seconds later he knocked it down vigorously and started all over again.
