Carson faced many struggles throughout her life. In the end, nothing slowed her down from her ultimate goal, protecting the environment. Rachel Carson’s belief that DDT was harming the environment was proven and argued wrong by the government. They stated that other contaminates were more harmful and poisonous to humans than DDT. It was actually that people just weren’t taking care of themselves, which inspired Carson to write a book about human health. Her book, Silent Spring published on September 27, 1962, was a big hit. For example, Vice President Al Gore shared that Silent Spring had a huge impact on him, personally. It made him realize how important the environment is and made him want to become more involved in it. It also inspired him to write some of his own books. He stated, “Her example inspired me to write Earth in the Balance. Her picture hangs on my office wall among those of political leaders. Carson has had as much or more effect on me than any of them, and perhaps than all of them together.” Although Rachel didn’t intend to, she spread the word all over the world about environmental awareness and saved lots of wildlife from dying.
