Dear Potential Distributor,
I am the proprietor of SKINTOLOGY, a cosmetics company, which was organized this year. I am currently looking for a distributor of my BFAD registered product called the MICRO DIAMOND SCRUB, a self-heating facial scrub. I intend to award the exclusive distributorship agreement to a company with the expertise in making the product widely available to a mass of buyers and with which I can build a strong, loyal and honest business relationship with. Provided below is my non-conventional business plan:

A. THE PRODUCT

1. How was the product idea generated?

A baby boomer is an American-English term to describe a person born between 1946 and 1964. Following World War II, these countries experienced an unusual spike in birth rates, a phenomenon commonly known as the baby boom. It is uncontested that baby boomers define the market trends. For instance, when the baby boomers were children, the best selling toys were Barbie dolls and Matchbox car toys. Today, they still top the list of the best-selling toys of all times. At present, baby boomers are in their 40s to 60s. For every eight (8) seconds, one baby boomer turns 60 years of age. It is a very large and profitable demographic, as baby boomers have the most purchasing power. As predicted, the market trends show an enormous demand for healthcare (which explains the huge demand for nurses and other medical personnel) and anti-aging remedies.

In my opinion, the best target market is the baby boomers. Hence, the best product to create would either be a legal drug or a personal care product for aging men and women. Because the cosmetics industry is large, profitable, promising and gives leeway to much creativity, I’ve decided to create a cosmetic to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. During my research, I visited cosmetic boutiques all over Metro Manila and discovered that the best-selling cosmetics are anti-aging products.

"The Baby Boom", was called the years in the 50's were there was an economical boom. People married young and began having families right away. The children from this generation were brought up in a so-called spoiled manner. This was probably because of the economical downturn in the 30's. This generation would not comprehend that hard work equaled to better life, not just that each day their family had more.…

Baby Boomers are the largest generation in US history. They were born between 1946 and 1964. Research shows that between 75 and 80 million people were born during this time period. That is an average of 4 million per year. This generation grew up during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Baby boomers ages range from the mid forties to the mid sixties, and the first of them will turn 65 this year or already have. With this generation being so large and encompassing a wide range of ages it will present many challenges for organizations. As many of them begin retiring this year, it will cause a drastic change in the workforce in the United States for the years to come. According to the Monthly Labor Review, Arlene Dohm states, “By 2018, all but the youngest baby-boomers will be of retirement age.” The biggest problem is, there is a smaller pool of workers in the generations that followed the baby boomers. Paul Hodge, who states in the December 2005 White House Conference on Aging Report “ From 2010 to 2030, the 65+ population will ‘spike’ by 75% to over 69 million people.”…

The Baby Boom is a demographic phenomenon that occurred after the Second World War, from 1946 to 1965. In fact, about eight million Canadian people were born in this period, causing economic, social, cultural, and political changes in each stage of their growing process (Statistics Canada, 2013). Currently, Baby Boomers have started to approach the last stages of their lifespan, reaching formal retirement from work and therefore an increase in leisure time (Cavanagh and Wendy, 2012). In fact, provinces as Ontario and Alberta, as well as, cities as Toronto and Vancouver will experience some of the effects of their retirement, specially in areas such as senior centres, public services, the organization of companies,…

“More babies were born in 1946 than ever before: 3.4 million, 20 percent more than in 1945,” (Jones, Landon.). This massive baby boom stabilized the economy of Canada, creating a sustainable prosperity. There were even more jobs and many immigrants to fill those positions. Most ammunition and war factories transformed into industries that created appliances for baby boomers. Some products were Barbie dolls, G.I. Joe and Mr. Potato Head (Owram, Doug). With this increase in population there were many daycares, hospitals, schools and child-care. Life Insurance companies started to catch the eyes of young parents causing them to invest and spend a large amount of money. The boomers were the most educated and the healthiest because of the immigrants and veterans of World War II that took over jobs as teachers and doctors. The more money spent means the more money that will return to the citizens. To this day the baby boomers have always been the largest consumers; they have become some of the largest and richest owners of private businesses across Canada (Adams, Michael). The baby boomer have helped balance Canada’s economy and prevented another Depression from starting.…

While reading this article, I learned so many new things about anti-aging creams and make-up. The bonus is the fact that Olay doesn’t test their products on animals, they do it on human skin from biopsies. The equipment to do all the tests and make the creams is very expensive. One machine costs $350,000.000. They use around 94 ‘gene chips’ with samples of skin to do many different series of tests. In the article they used a lot of fancy words that I don’t quite understand, but I’m sure I can assume what they mean. It’s crazy how much science goes into anti-aging formulas. It’s all about the sun damage and the metabolic stuff.…
