I find writing a very neutral subject because I am not terrible nor excellent at it. I have always written enough for it to be satisfactory. Therefore, I believe that one of my strengths as a writer is being able to understand what I have to write about and knowing what I want to say. I question myself every step of the way, asking myself “ Is what I am writing, answering the topic that I am addressing?” However, with that said, I believe that my weakness lies in that fact that I cannot put my thoughts into words. I have a vast amount of ideas that never get a chance to come alive on paper. I feel that I am not very good at transitions and sentence structures. Another weakness is that it takes me an awful long…
When writing an essay there really is more to it than just writing words down and making sure the words is used correctly. When someone is having thoughts they need to write them down and just go from there. At first it may not be perfect, but the writer can always go back and change the errors that need to be fixed. Before reading this I figured it was going to be about bad writing and one should not worry if it is not perfect. This made me realize that it is not about how you write, but what you write about and how to get your thoughts across.…
I plan to assess and identify my strengths and weakness. I will learn to manage my emotions properly.…
Personally, I’ve always felt I was a decent writer in all aspects regarding research and personal narratives. Considering those are subjects that interest me and that I love to read about. I struggle the most when it comes to making my writing hold a deeper or hidden message when the topics I am told to write about don’t interest me. Having to do rhetorical analysis with old literature and having to explain the main idea was my number one struggle in AP language and composition senior year. But other than that I felt, throughout high school, I enjoyed writing and taking a majority of the writing classes my school had to offer, not only because it was required but because it was something that teachers and myself felt I did acceptable work.…
The quote “ If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” by Frederick Douglass clearly sums up my experience as a writer. Writing has always been a challenge for me primarily due to a lack of practice and confidence. Whenever I am assigned a writing task, academic or creative, such a journal entry, reflection paper, essay, or research paper, my immediate reaction is instinctively negative and fearful. In addition, I never took the subject seriously in my years of studies because I never deemed writing to be crucial and necessary unless I wanted to become a professional writer.…
We tend to obsess over our weaknesses rather than recognizing our strengths, but the strengths quest introduced us to a different philosophy. Instead of dwelling on our weaknesses or desperately trying to turn them into strengths, we should focus on the strengths we already have and built upon them to succeed. The Strengths Quest presentation was my favorite part of the course. The Strengths Quest is a 30-minute online assessment that asks us a series of questions and determines what our five top strengths are based on our choices. The presentation helped us gain insights on how to use our strengths to our advantage. We learned about each of our strengths and how they can help us succeed in academics, work, relationships, and choosing a career.…
Writing has never been easy for me. In school, I have always had good grades. Some subjects came naturally like biology, history, and even math. Over time I have learned, that writing is a process. It takes patience and skill. Ever since writing my first major paper in the eighth grade, I gained a better understanding and appreciation for writing.…
Based off of the questions that were asked during the recent survey, my top five strengths are Activator, Relator, Strategic, Communication, and Adaptability. Going into this survey, I thought I knew what my main strengths were. Come to find out; I was right for the most part, but I have a few more strengths than what I thought. Adaptability and Strategic are new to me, now to figure out how to use them.…
Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes. I have learned much in the first semester of this course and I have grown to enjoy writing again because of this…
I have faced several challenges as a writer. From freshman year to senior year of high school, I have taken English classes to improve my writing and communication skills. Once in my Freshman English class, our teacher had us think about a topic we were interested in and then write about it. Back at that time I had struggled with writing essays, so I would go after school to receive tutoring help from my teacher. She was helpful on guiding me through the research process and then using sources to put information in my paper. I began to brainstorm and write down ideas that I could write for in my paper. My paper was about two pages in length and I turned it in about a week. When I got it back, I wasn’t impressed with the feedback and the grade I received. I then realized that a few pieces of my writing were not organized and didn't make sense, but even though I made the effort on writing this paper, I felt that I had poor writing skills and needed to improve.…
Writing is always difficult and takes a long time, this is my first impression about any writing class. Not only because of its techniques, but also the language was a big obstacle. I don’t see myself as a good writer and writing for me is just a required task I have to get it done. I moved to the United States three years ago. I have taken English as a first foreign language in my Egyptian school beside Arabic --my native language--. When I moved here and started school, I placed in an ESL class for a quarter and then moved to regular English classes after that. When I start the writing courses here at UCI, I wasn’t happy about my placement. After, I was taking a regular English classes in high school, I placed in AC English 20C/D. I wished that I had gotten placed in a more advanced writing course. But after finishing these academic courses, I can admit that my enrollment was not a waste and it was the right choice. During these courses, I have improved in many different areas. Doing the essay in three drafts required me to go over and reconsider my essay…
Similar to other students, each of my five strengths has a significant influence on my life at Grace as well as my studies. First of all, being an achiever clearly empowers me to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. A few of the characteristics of an achiever are great stamina, productive, and a hard worker; these will definitely benefit me in the coming years. Also, this strength will aid me in my goal of attaining good grades during my college time. No matter what, I always put my best effort into my work. I generally do what is asked of the teacher/professor without even thinking as well as do anything necessary in order to pay attention to what is being taught which more than likely will be an advantage for me.…
Ever since I was young, writing has never been my strong point. I never divulged into the writing process as much as I have completed for this particular course called writing 101. The reason being, English was never my first spoken or written language. I am comfortable with speaking the English language however writing correctly and adhering to the writing process has always been a challenge for me. For once, I never had a clear idea of structuring an essay to reach a valid point. Without structural organization, all the essays I have written so far lacked the impact that good, strong essays usually show. However within this course period, I have obtained many skills that divulges into writing a good, strong essay or any writing pieces for that matter. I began this course with very basic writing skills; now I have acquired intermediate learning skills through using pre-writing, good grammar knowledge and transition words.…

My strengths and weaknesses define who I am. My strengths help me become a better person and my weaknesses keep me fighting to be that better person. Recognizing my own personal strengths I am able to build on them and use them towards my advantage. I believe these attributes make you who you are and show your true abilities as a person. The famous quote, “My attitude is that if you push me towards something that you think is a weakness, then I will turn that perceived weakness into a strength”, by Michael Jordan, are wise words spoken to motivate one into thinking about the way they choose to life their life and how they go about it. Everyone has his or her own weaknesses; it is what you do with it that makes you who you are.…
