That Day That Changed My Life.
The pain that ran though my body and heart was indescribable, loneliness, emptiness having the thought in my mind of never seeing my great uncle again made me ache. His passing was very unfortunate. No amount of hugs and kisses could make up for this loss of life. Having him being an inspiration to me, I now feel like I am lost. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for him.
I was so very grateful when he gave me my second horse, Annie. Annie and I have managed to go very far together, competitions, pony club and also the casual trail ride up the bush. She has boosted my confidence and just made me feel on top of the world at the best of times. I’m able to work with animals and have happy experiences now as well as share and build a bond with them. Everything I have learnt with horses and animals has all been thanks to my beautiful great uncle. Having the smell of horse manure and freshly cut grass with the feeling of sweet cool wind on my cheeks the view of the bush paddocks as far as I could see made me feel like I was dreaming. Nothing around me could possibly hurt me or affect me or anyone else, just a paddock full of open thoughts.
When I first went to Klaas’ farm I was very young and in a pram, over many years of going down to the farm I then gained memories and many experiences that I will forget. One of them experiences being when we had to pull a young calf out of the dam, the calf was just a little too curious of the water and had just gotten stuck in the mud. We ripped off our boots, and slowly started entering the dirty brown watered dam, as we did not want to startle the calf, as he was already stress. My feet where almost suctioned into the mud, as I lifted the calves sloppy wet head to keep it above the water. We pushed, one, two, and three. Minutes went ticking by; this calf was in the mud deep. I then gave one last push trying so hard to lift and push the calf it slipped out of the mud. The feeling of saving this beautiful little creature

I have always love horses, and as a little girl one of my favorite movies was Spirit: a movie set in the 1800s about a wild mustang who is captured by the U.S army and embarks on a long journey back home to his family. I loved this movie not only because of the many horses, but also because I related with Spirit’s struggles. When I was very young my parents got divorced and my dad won custody of my little sister and I. At that young age I felt like I lost my mother because even though I still got to talk to her on the phone, I missed her arms around me when I was sad and that special relationships mothers and daughters share. Spirit lost his mom when he was captured and so I felt like he understood me.…

Farmington, New Mexico 2003, 11 years old and in love with my broken down racehorse, his name was Gentleman or “Gentleman Hawk” according to his papers. We had gotten Gentleman from a sale barn for a measly 400 dollars, he was in real bad shape but my father and I nursed him back to health. When Gentleman was at full health I would run him across the pasture, back and forth until it was dark or my parents called me for supper, it was a time in my life with few worries and very little stress but this horse just brought me so much joy, it was a relationship that I look back on and cherish. Horses had always been such a big part of my families’ life and since I was the only child in the family who would go ride on his own, I really…

When it was the brink of my grandfather's death, nearly everyone was expecting it to happen. He was laid down looking so fragile, like he could break any minute. It was heartbreaking seeing him like that. He was feeling pain everyday and we couldn't do anything about it. About two days before his death, everyone went to say their possible last goodbyes. At this time I went to shed a few handful of tears in my empty, frigid, starless room. Prayers filled the…

We lose people in our lifetime that are dear to us for a specific reason what really matters is that the time they spent with you while they were alive and how you used that time to show them how much you loved them. At the age of nine I lost my great grandpa who was like another father to me. I remember when they had called my mom to tell her he had passed away she rushed to get her things packed. I was worried because she wouldn't say where she was going until after she was gone because she knew we wouldn't have let her go by herself especially since it was my great grandpa. I didn't think it was fair for him to leave yet there were still many things we had not experienced together. My favorite moments were when we would go to get candy at the little shop that was around the corner from his house in Mexico. The very last time I saw him was two years before he had passed away I couldn't bare his passing. I didn't get a chance to see him one last time because he had passed away when we were still in school my parents wouldn't have taken us out of school to go to Mexico for his funeral. I couldn't forgive myself for not seeing him at least one last time even if he wasn't alive it would've of meant the world to me to at least be beside him.…

Watching him lay there hooked up to so many different machines broke my heart. Knowing that he was never going to be able to take me out golfing again or even see me graduate made me feel like my world was going to shatter. But seeing Papa like that made me really understand what a gift life truly is. Every moment is precious and I need to get the most out of everything I do because eventually I too will be just like my papa. Not only did I learn to seize the moment, but I also learned how to be a more mature and strong adult. My mother, grandma, and uncle all needed a shoulder to cry on and someone to tell them that everything was okay when it was Papa’s last days. My brother and cousin were too little so I had to step up and be that comfort for them. During that time I grew up very quickly because I needed to help hold my family up during this tremendous loss just like my Papa used…

Because he was gone, I spent most of my time trying to follow in his footsteps. Taking his characteristics into the thought, I tried to become the selfless person he was, but it was not possible. No matter how hard I tried, I could never be him. It took me awhile to travel back to the reality that just because he is gone, I do not have to become him to keep his memory striving. Like everyone else, I had heard about “death”, but I had never experienced the hollow emptiness that comes with personal loss. Unbeknownst to me, my grandma, who had lived with our family since my birth and was my biggest supporter, was being slowly dragged away by sickness. She had been sick for a little while, but everyone had thought it was just a stomach virus. However, as time went on, it became clear something was wrong and she went to the doctor. There, she was diagnosed with cancer.…

My mind automatically went to my mom and little sister and how badly they would freak out. I knew that I had to put my feelings aside and help them as much as possible. When we got back to my house and got out of the car I could already hear my mom screaming and crying hysterically. I went inside and hugged her and I cried but I didn't let her see because I knew that it would make her cry even more. They hadn't picked my little sister, Mackenzie, up from school yet, and my mom was going crazy trying to figure out how to tell her that her dad died.…

In my past, I was a partier. I did drink and experimented with drugs. Becoming a mother made me not interested in those things anymore. I was thinking about how to be the best mom I could be, how to better mine and Cheyenne’s life, and what to do next. I believe this is normal when you have a kid. I took all these thoughts into consideration though. I did not grow up knowing my birth family, I was in foster care. I really did not want that for my daughter. To keep this from happening I continued to think, and wanted to…
