A member of such a society based on character, scholarship and leadership is one who can demonstrate these three tasks in their everyday lives. The ease of maintaining a balanced schedule whilst also upholding these characteristics may not be the simplest of tasks at times, even for the best students, although the drive to strive for this essence sets individuals apart from the majority. I believe that in my everyday life, I demonstrate these ideals and would heartily enjoy guiding others in them. To be exercise any of these qualities requires one’s own desire, a desire which I not only try to instill into myself, but into others as well. Being part of the National Honor Society would not only be an honor in and of itself, but an honor which is able to transcend its membership and let a person such as myself try to better the school, town, and familial communities by doing good in each of them.…

However, the Navy option student is only required to take two years of calculus and two years of physics. But, Great leaders in the United States military history were not known for their pencil pushing skills. As Lieutenant General Lewis “Chesty” Puller put it, “We make generals today on the basis of their ability to write a damned letter. Those kinds of men can’t get us ready for war.” Leaders are not created in just the classroom setting. Midshipmen need to get up and get out there, put out the extra effort. (Insert…
My future dream/goal in life is to eventually one day join the United States Marine Corps. I have always had this dream since I was a little boy, I always some how knew that I had a special calling to serve my country and protect it with my life. Throughout my life people have tried to talk me out of joining but what they do not understand is that I have been dreaming of joining my entire life, it is what I love to study in school, it is my passion, it’s apart of me, and nothing nor no one can ever deter me away from that mindset.…
Furthermore, what initially interested me in the naval service was my family's involvement in the military. Ever since I was a child, I was inspired to become a military officer knowing my father was a non-commissioned officer in the Coast Guard and when my sister commissioned into the Navy as an officer becoming head of the physician and medical department on Naval bases. I was then driven to pursue a similar ambition to strive towards serving my country in the Navy as a lifelong career. My father works for the Air Force and growing up around planes; I generated interest for flight and the science behind it. I want to receive education from one of the top rated engineering institutions in the…
"A good Navy is not a provocation to war. It is the surest guaranty of peace." by Commodore George Dewey. On October 13, 1775 America’s Navy was born. The navy has contributed greatly to the United States, being involved in over ten prodigious wars and countless battles. Their efforts to bring peace, security, democracy, and prosperity to America is well recognized. They have helped America move forward through both action and revolution, and has been a helping hand to those in need internationally. (6) (8)…
The honor of attending one of the Military Service Academies would be one of the highest honors to be awarded. To be afforded the opportunity to receive that type of education and training would give me the basis to meet my life goals. I have attended several excellent schools during my life and the mission statements have been "Work Study Worship" and "Service Honor God and Leadership" these have been engrained into me and I believe they have prepared me for a life in the Military. My mother has worked serving the children and families in our State and ensured I received the best education possible. I have always volunteered to help with the Foster Children and those less fortunate during the holidays and to help support the Community.…
The four pillars of National Honors Society, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, have paved a path for me as a student and as a person. Scholarship has taught me to strive to be the best student I can be. I use scholarship to keep up with my school work and never give up when a class is hard. I always strive for the best grade I can get and I will stop at nothing until I reach my goal. I will continue to use scholarship as I go to college and pursue my dream as a pediatric dentist. I will study, I will learn, and I will never give up no matter what happens along the way. I use service when I volunteered to help my local private school. I was never asked to do so, but I felt as if I was giving back to a school that had done so much…
Impressment in the navy, particularly that done by the British Royal Navy in the 18th and early 19th centuries, has been a hotly debated subject in recent years. While historians tend to unilaterally agree that impressment occurred in the aforementioned time period, the question of the percentage of British sailors impressed, and therefore the impact of impressment on British society, remains today. While historians such as Denver Brunsman, Nicolas A. M. Rogers, and Isaac Land view the percentage of impressed British sailors as relatively high, historians such as J. Ross Dancy believe the percentage was actually very low relative to the number of men who volunteered (Land; Dancy 54). Due to this discrepancy, determining the number of men who…
Recently, I have experience a difficult period of time in my personal life and I felt loss, I was looking for purpose, direction, and new opportunities. I found an announcement of the Navy recruiters looking for nurses and I started investigating about it. After, I found some of the possibilities that I could have as a member of the Navy Nurse Corps, I knew that was my next step in life for two reasons: the first one, I want to be a great example for my son I want to do something to be proud of in life. The second reason is my strong desire of helping people and serve my country. By joining the Navy Nurse Corps I will be able to achieve this goals, I believe that become…
America was founded on, and has been continuously defined by, extraordinary leaders. Without the tireless guidance and dedication of generations of these men and women, our country would never have grown into the renowned nation it is today. The ideals and values that these leaders embodied, and what our country has accomplished under their direction, has inspired me; I long to someday advance and defend this nation’s greatness through my leadership. This desire, paired with my passion for the military, is what has, and continues to, motivate me to attend a service academy. Furthermore, I wish to reciprocate the investment this country has made in me. Our country has provided me with access to exceptional opportunities, education, and freedoms;…
The pillar of scholarship has influenced me since before I was inducted into the National Honor Society. From this pillar I adopted the attitude that every aspect of academics and knowledge requires the full devotion of myself and my time. I have learned that the true value of the pillar of scholarship is to educate individuals of the capabilities and success that only continuous education can provide.…
