Identifying Needs :
The teachers role would be to ensure that there is an initial assessment of suitability for the course. This can be done using various methods such as application form, interview or external referral. This information allows the teacher to identify any learners who require extra support. For example someone with Dyslexia may require extra time to complete a task and someone with a visual impairment may need to bring with them specialist equipment and sit at an appropriate desk. In the case of the safeguarding training all applicants should submit a form in advance . This application form asks the student if they have any disabilities and if so support is offered ahead of time.
In order to be able to assess suitability it is vital that the teacher has a good knowledge of the selection criteria, content of the course; this includes academic and physical requirements. During the assessment all the information that is presented needs to be analysed and verified by the teacher, some administrative help may also be required.
The initial assessment is aimed at finding out what each individual would like to get out of the course and what their expectations are. Using all the information gained from the assessment will ensure that each learner has the academic ability to complete and pass the required qualification.
Once an appropriate group of learners are identified it is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that they are given the correct information with regard to enrolment, location and start date and time. While some individuals attend the safeguarding course on a voluntary basis,
