The Symbolic Leadership Model: My Vision Of Leadership
My vision of leadership is to establish a comfortable environment where creative ideas are promoted, and everyone’s voice is heard. This has always been my style of leading. I do not get stuck on my ideas, or the ideas of particular individuals over the others’. All ideas that help the group to move forward gets promoted.
Before I talk about my advantages as a leader, I would like to mention that it is sometimes hard for me to keep time, when innovative and interesting ideas are being shared. I once had to lead a meeting about a CfA project, and due to interesting discussions, the meeting took 30 minutes, while it was supposed to be 15 minutes at maximum. Symbolic leaders focus on providing a vision and inspiration as the main task of management. (Leebolman, n. d.) Some indicators of a symbolic leader include: inspiring and exciting others, imagination and creativity, and being visionary. I personally believe that the maximum success of a group is achieved by getting group members inspired and motived to do the work.
When we were creating business ideas, I used creativity and visionary techniques to motivate the group. As a group we came up with different ideas on the first day. However, I wanted to start getting people inspired, and get the group to do the most exciting project in the class. Before the meeting, I took time to design a logo that aligns with one business idea that was about opening an online shop. I created a logo, and gave the business a name, before coming to the group. When we came together as a group. I thought of presenting my idea to the group to see what other people thought about it. From there, everyone started to see the vision I had about the idea. Everyone started to try and make modifications, and from there the group was inspired, and you could see the motivation
